engine getting hot

finally got bike going.im in Australia and its quite hot .my engine got to about 3/4 on the guage(it's a 98 model)and the fan did not operate.coolant is new.any ideas ?

air lock
thermo stuck closed?

id be starting with those first of all :thumbup:
the older i get,the faster i was :lol:

Or the Fan Fuse. They have been known to blow for no apparent reason or if something stops the fan from rotating.

I have also seen someone incorrectly attach the ground wire to the frame instead of the radiator.......that one took a sec to find....lol
Also make sure the fan blades turn freely....there have been time when some debris gets stuck in the fan :thumbup:

The fan should come on from about halfway on the gauge (corresponding to around 100C). As suggested above, check the fan blades turn freely, I had a stone jammed in mine and that caused the fuse to pop when it tried to run. The fan motor always has a live 12v feed, the thermoswitch connects up the earth path to make it run.

I havene't found my VTR to run hot at all (unless stuck in traffic) so if yours is getting hot while moving, there might be other issues like a jammed thermostat, faulty radiator cap or air in the system. If the hose to the expansion tank gets a hole in it, that will cause air to get sucked back in as the system cools down.
