CBR1000 Firestorm

Post by moto1818 »

Hi, first post but I've been a member for ages gleaning information from you guys so I thought I'd get my finger out and give some back.
I've personally always loved the Firestorm engine but never the looks and have threatened to do this for ages, basically fit (properly) Fireblade bodywork on a Firestorm. This way I get what I personally want, something nice looking, great engine and most important I get to use my hands and solve problems.
I have loads of pictures and I'll post them all up soon but the pictures show it as is today.
I spent a lot of time ensuring the bodywork lines up as well as it can on a bike its not designed for and I think its somewhere near.
I have made all fairing mounts, moved the radiators back slightly with new mounts, cut and altered the bellypan and plastic welded to fit, altered the blade rear subframe and made new mounts. The subframe still requires finishing but I've left the tabs on for now in case I decide to use them.
I have fitted a 97 blade front end.
Loads more to tell but I'll post back again soon. I would ask for honest constructive feedback, good or bad makes no difference, I see all as a learning.

I will be using the ram air ducts. I have modified the part that would have gone under the tank from the front fairing, I have yet to make a diffuser to put the air exactly where I want it but my guess it would sufficiently cool with what I have.

The ram air ducting is not fitted on this side but instead of the end going under the tank I have cut the end and plastic welded it back on facing the radiator. I will upload better pictures to show tomorrow. :D

Cheers  I love bikes they are my passion, new or old I love getting them sorted. I'm thinking of a high level option with the cans but I don't want great big link pipes. I will be bracing the swingarm as well. I was considering a single sided swingarm but dont want to screw up the handling, I hear it makes the bike wheelbase a bit long?? I mention it because initially I was thinking single wider with RC45 twin pipes on one side.

Thanks! The steering range has been limited slightly but no big deal. They are race clip Ons and are slightly lower than standard, before I set the lockstops I will consider whether I want more steering. The forks are way through the yokes but are not set correctly yet, I just whacked them in to wheel it about.

I like the look of that, really nice lines, but I think the exhausts need to be kept down low similar to the late fireblades.
Good work so far mate

As yet I don't know, if I where to make the hangers to fit them now they may look daft because they'd be huge?? High level cans would make more sense bracket wise but I don't like long link pipes either...........still to be decided. :confused
