first storm project

Post by H120nn »

Hi all,
After having been a member on here for a while now and never posting i thought i would finally share my first ever storm project. I had toyed with selling the storm so many times over the couple years or so i have owned it as like so many of you i loved the engine in it, but it always lacked that little something in the way it looked and handled. i eventually came to the realisation that for what little money i had in the bike (£900) i was never going to find anything that ever quite came close or performed quite the way i wanted and so began the modifications to turn it into the bike it deserved to be.

When i first bought it, it had a couple of bits already done like a pair of higher level remus pipes, rear hugger etc and i set too doing the usual stuff like smaller indicators, double bubble screen, new chain, sprocket, bushes a good service and so on and ran it like so for the first 6 months. After 6 months of it wollowing its way round corners and still not looking the way i wanted it too i parked it up and got the tools out stripping the back end out of it and fitting a vfr800 single side swingarm and a fire blade front end which made it handle how it should always of and then plasti dipped all the bodywork as something a little different to the norm but also as a bit of a stop gap till i decided what i wanted to do next and again ran it for another 6 months.......which as of a couple nights a go and a very lucky buy off ebay, i purchased some sp1 race fairings for 99p and a night in the workshop with the angle grinder, some metal for making brackets and a tub of probolts the storm is finally starting to resemble the bike i always wanted it too.

heres a few pics in progress throughout the stages:-

it wasnt a bad one to start with.....apart from the slight bit of gravel rash on the front where the previous owner went down at the traffic lights lol. i took the complete front end out of a 98 fireblade.....forks, yokes top and bottom, handle bars and wheel spacers etc. the only bits i didnt swap over where the brakes (not that im sure theres any difference between them). it was pretty much a straight swap.

the header took a little bit of patience to get a nice fit between the shock and swingarm and still retain the right sort of length, but i would recommend if anyone else does it heat wrap it so as not to boil the oil in the rear shock. i done mine and have no problems with it at all.

Hi All,
I just thought i would post up a few progress pics of my bike, as the sp1 fairings are finally on and where i wanted them to be and almost all jobs are complete (mudguard brackets to make then proper paint instead of temp plastidip haha). although im already looking at the exhaust system for changing it again and at some point the rear end, but not quite decided just what im going to go for yet.

Like it and it ticks many boxes - apart from the red anodised fittings and footpegs, and the fluorescent screen  .
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
