Painting Forks and Easter Eggs

Post by Wicky »

Due to a mishap last Tuesday over-tightening (d'oh!) my caliper on the rear bracket and waiting for a replacement to arrive, today I launched into tidying up my front forks after 10 years of winter riding. Thursday managed between showers to install a new chain & sprocket - rivetted the chain off the bike and simply dropped the footpegs to fit it - much easier IMHO

Bugger!

Nitromors and cling film to soak for 30 minutes.

Wirebrush, wash and sand off old paint and oxidisation. Dry thoroughly and wash down with white spirit. Hang on washing line to dry once again.

After a coffee and choccie break masked up and holes plugged with blu-tac

I managed to get a coat of hammerite metal primer sprayed on but forgot to get a pic before packing up - Next time I'll lay a few coats of black undercoat on before a gun metal finish and laquering.

Hi, mate!

I was wondering where the "C" was, but then I looked at the pictures and realised you kept your forks in it.............

Those look good!

Trouble is, what parts will look shabby next to them- wheels? Bar ends? Paint?

I did mine a while back, polished and lacquered but I prefer the black now I've seen it.

Black chrome- now there's a thought............

Maybe some nitromoors on the patio paving wouldn't go amiss either.

satin black looks very pro imho,, much nicer than matt black.
why did i type matt bianco then lol, bunch of fkin fiddler :P

i got a case of satin black high temperature spray as a backhander so will be making the most of that on mine once it's all stripped down.

if you're anything like me, once i start painting i can't stop till it's all gone!

Finished! Thankfully the rain stayed away for a couple of days - frustratingly can't take it for a spin as still without rear bracket

Image

Also used the same colour to spray the titchy belly pan

Image

If it lasts a couple of years I'll be happy - Might go for gold next time though but grey should be easier to clean!

Why stop there, you have realised black is the colour of fastness, may the rattle can be with you.

Funny how everyone else's storm is perfect isnt it? Even when they spend most of their time in bits in some cases. Yours is ridden.
+1 there Timbo,

mines not in bits, nor in perfect condition either, gets ridden regularly (though not as often as other people on here, but due to the fact I have the choice of four vehicles, and how many passengers dictates what I will be riding / driving).

Looking good, I'm thinking of spraying mine myself. How long did you leave the primer to cure for before spraying with Hammerite (I'll be using that for my swingarm too)?
