Fireblade remapping

Post by Zakalwe »

As mentioned here, I have had another dyno map created to suit the bike. I had recently swapped the standard headers for a set of Micron Serpent jobbies. This is allied to an Akra titanium race can (baffle fitted).

Yeah, yeah, I know it's an IL4, but I though you might like to see some real horsepower numbers (ducks for cover and runs like hell!! :D )

This is where we started:
143 RWBHP was the starting point (original end can, drilled baffles, flapper mod, exhaust valve disconnected). A remap got the power to 147 RW BHP with a lot more area under the curve and big gains from 8K RPM to 11K RPM.

With the Ti Akrapovic endcan and a set of K+N filters it moved to 151 RWBHP, (this run was done on a freezing cold, damp day in February ). I gained 4 BHP and 2 ft-lbs.

Now with the Serpent headers it's making 157 RWBHP. I've lost a bit of peak torque and its shifted the bulge in the BHP curve from 8-10k to 10,500-12k. It holds onto the power really well at the top end until it hits the redline, whereas before it was tailing off from 10,250 rpm.

This is with the baffle in. There's probably another 4-5 BHP to be gained by running it without the baffle, though to be honest, it's far too loud for the road (sounds bloody good though!).
I'm pretty damn pleased with the results. 143 BHP to just shy of 160, on a stock engine is a decent result.

In comparison, Andy had an '09 CBR1000rr racebike on before me. Standard engine, BMC filters and a LeoVince slip-on...it was making 161 RW BHP

thats pretty fkin impressive m8!!!!

bmc filters pwn btw - the 144/04 is the one for the firestorm, sposed to pass 12% more air than kn

was very tempted to buy another blade before i bought the storm, the a 05 r1, then a cb13, then a sp2 lol ah decisions!
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Yeah...the BMCs always get good press. But they are scarce and are over £85. I got a pair of K&Ns (brand new) from Calsport's ebay shop for £55 delivered. £30 is better in my pocket !!!

Sounds like some pretty good gains to me

I suppose they make up, a little, for having the embarrasment of an in-line four :biggrin

Some good gains had there, tuning gets pretty addictive :) sowhat ya going to do next

My old gsxr1100 got to a point where it was just plain hard work to use on the road, but i had pushed it from 150bhp to just shy of 190. This involved increasing the bore and stroke to increase the displacement to 1230cc. dynojet, K&N air filter, straight through pipes, porting the head, yoshi cams and pistons, skim the head to increase compression to 11.9:1 ignition advanced by 4'

main problem with the bike is it had alot of character (and by character i mean weight) so after all my tuning the bike was best suited for running up santa pod and not riding to work on rainy winter nights.

Now i have a storm i think i will leave it as stock as possible, well apart from maybe some new pipes, and then maybe ..... eh what was i saying about tuning getting addictive

This is pretty much as far as it's going.....though my dyno guy reckons that he can get real big low and mid range gains from tweaking the ignition. So I have half and eye out for a Dynojet ignition module. If I get that, then I might bung a quickshifter on too (important for getting that last tenth of a second off the Devils Bridge butty run!!!!)
