worston nr clitheroe crash...

Post by benny hedges »

oh dear, on the way back tonight, about 5.30pm, got flashed by a oncoming car, thought it mightve been a camera van as we say loads out today...
got to the crest of a hill on a left hander to see a crash had just happened. 2 riders down and another 2 stood around while cops gave cpr to the 2 downed riders.
more cops came, 2 ambulances and a paramedic van, then air ambulance landed and some more medics got out.
help was already at the scene and there was nothing we could do...
i had 2 young riders with me and they were obviously quite shaken,, don't think they'd seen a bad one yet, so we turned round and had a sombre ride home - kind of takes the fun out of a ride when you see something like that.
didn't look good for the 2 poor souls tbh, i dont think they made it.

didn't go looking obviously and couldnt say what bikes they were, one was totally destroyed and looked like a big tourer like a pan, the other one downed looked like a burgman so it's unlikely they were scraping the pegs.
looked like they had met a car on the crest but i can't say who was in the wrong... no doubt it will be in the papers etc.

hope they're ok, but from what i saw i think it will be a case of condolences to family & friends

it appears there were 2 fatalities - the rider and his partner riding pillion.

we was on about it before - went past the same road and there were flowers at the scene.
doesn't appear to have been another vehicle involved and the paper states the ride 'lost control'
that's pretty had to believe tbh as he was obviously a experienced rider and you don't go mad on a touring bike, especially not with your mrs on the back, with a burgman rev n rip riding with you...

what i did notice yeterday though in the area was the amount of pheasants wandering out onto the road,
(they aren't little fluffy chickens... i'd imagine hitting one at 40+ would be like hitting a housebrick)
and also at that time the sun was low in the sky and very dazzling - i'd just changed to clear visor for that reason...
could well be that he came over the crest of the hill and got dazzled badly but looking at the bike it had definately hit something, it's just hedges there not dry stone walls like on a lot of the roads in the area.. maybe the bike highsided and flipped?
another one of them where we will probably never find out.

i do think there should be chevrons & double whites on that bend though...

apparently they were from Heywood nr rochdale - the bike was a cb1100 and it hit a fence...
they mustve been travelling the same direction we were if it was a left hander.

does make you think... we waited at the bottom of the road for another rider on a tuono who'd overshot the turn.
if we hadn't have waited it could've been us.

tragic accident :/
