Improved Brakes

Whats the best way to improve the bracking on the storm,already got braided hose's and EBC HH pads on the front but looking to improve some more without spending a fortune.
What differance will changing the front lever/master cylinder achieve and what is the best straight swop if this is the way to go.

You could try cleaning the calipers and the pistons to make sure there not siezed up a bit, this will make a big difference for no money, then you could try a SP1 master cylinder, after that you into big money items. just giving the calipers a good clean does make a suprising difference.

could'nt agree more if you want a cheep fix do that first. Remove the pistons from the calipers and if you are gentle ease out the seals and then clean all the crud out of the groove the brake seal sits in. This will return the braking power back to what it was when new and with your braided hoses it should feel even better. Then if thats not good enough change the master cylinder.

Just in the process of sorting my brakes out.
Couple of the pistons have been sticking, so im pushing the pistons out, splitting the calipers and a damn good clean up(once i've finished decorating the comput^h^ new babys room).

Should get the brakes fettled nicely.

No the pistons are ok i use brake grease on the pistons and give the pads a quick rub over on a grinder with a wire wheel every now and again and also clean the discs with scotchbrite as Roger's recomendations.I also run new brake fluid through every couple of thousand miles and bleed them.
So my problem is just not being happy with what i have got and want a cheap upgade,will try and get hold of a SP1 master cylinder and lever.

Why aren't you happy with them?

What don't they do?

I can lock the front and rear up no problem.. that's a standard setup.

Why do you need any more than that?

They are just not up to modern brakes and would just love a little more without having to grab a handfull thats all.Dont think anyone on here can say they have one or two finger braking,i just dont feel they are what they could be.

Wrong!!! I use 2 fingers and can make the front wheel squeak

However I would like the brakes to be more responsive and may try an SP1 master cylinder...

I fitted EBC Prolite disks & HH pads to the front of my Firestorm and it made a significant difference over the standard kit.

I've also been looking to step up my braking performance, ( dash 2 lines and EBC HH pads are already installed ) has anybody tried the Galfer wave rotors? I've been toying with the idea of buying a set of these. Also recently on the forum somebody mentioned that a Fireblade master cylinder would give better feel however the model year or piston size was never given. If anybody has any input I'd be glad to listen. Cheers Ian.

Try experimenting with different pads

I've used HH's and found that while the initial bite was great, they lacked power as they got hotter

Carbone Lorraine SBK3's were brilliant on track where they felt like carbon (ie got stronger as they got hotter) but a bit crap on the road

Currently using Bendix SS and absolutely love them to bits. Best of both worlds. Good initial bite followed by self-servo action as they get hotter. Generally only need one finger on the road (middle finger -applied to car drivers!!

If you want to buy your own PFM superbike 320mm disks then I have a set of 6 pot calipers (blade/VTR fitment), an AP CP3125 master cylinder and goodridge hoses (all connected together at the mo) forsale for Â£380. The whole lot has done about 3400 miles over the last 4 years. The pads are not worn but I will also throw in a new set of HH pads too.

They won't fit with the standard disks just oncase anyone is wondering.

I ran them with a pair of AP GP 320mm disks fitted to a racing 3-spoke dymag.

I got 'em from Demon Tweaks 3 months ago.
From memory (which is hazy at the best of times

) I think they were about Â£1 different from HH's
