help! leaking petrol?

Post by matinik46 »

Hi people,
had this problem a couple of days.
could smell petrol the other day,had a look round the bike, nothing.
yesterday a small patch of petrol on the floor from one of the many pipes that hang out the bottom of the bike.
i cant tell where it goes, it runs to the left then, through the frame on the clutch side then dissapears under the header tank.
any idears?
its not one of the pipes that runs to the tank,so am i looking at a carb problem?
cheers
matt

had a good look today when the heat died down, traced the pipe back across the other side of the bike,
and it does go to the tank.
would it be the tank breather blocked and its forcing petrol out this pipe?

Could be, if the tank's brimmed heat with the temps we've had today might be expanding the fuel out into the overflow.

Try separating them, and tying a bit of plastic bag over the end of each one, then you'll know which one is leaking and can see where it goes to.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

thanks tony,will try separating them.
the thing is the tank hasnt been brimmed for a while(petrol prices!!)
thats whats got me worried.
could just be the heat of the past few days though.
will keep my eye on it.(not literally!)
cheers mate.

Not sure if this is relavent to the VTR & Honda build quality. On my Bandit fuel was escaping from the overflow pipe which was do to the overflow extension in the tank corroding therefore over flowing lower down than where it should have been. just a thought.
