Hi all will this fit and work on my Firestorm 98 model?

Post an eBay link so we can have a look.
But the yam reg is not plug and play, you need to take the connector off the Honda loom and fit some heat shrink over the connectors an then fit them to the correct pins on the new r/r

To complicated for thee. Only got the net on my phone. On eblag £20 plus £3.50 post. Seller mirfield motor spares.
Or can get a finned 97 reg cbr 600 one for the same money atb JB

Hi fitted R6 reg to both our storms mine the( silver one) under charged and the wifes( red one) killed the battery fitted R6 reg never had any more prob got ours from Bentley motorcycle breakers Ian.

The Honda FES 250 scooter regulator is identical to the Storm, handy to know when searching for one.

the e-bay ling you sent me is not what you want.......that is the same as the one which will fail....no heatsink.
if you look in the workshop knowledge base there is a list of honda bikes which have the new finned device.

Hi all, thanks for all your help, but i have decided to buy a new upgraded Honda item. 1 year warranty. After reading about the Yam ones and speaking to a top Honda tech. I made my choice.

Warranty won't cover a cooked battery if it fails in the warranty period.
But you'll probably be ok, they seem to last a fair while.
If you wanted to be safe, fit a voltmeter, or a combined volt/gear position indicator.
Then you'll see if voltage goes over spec, and can turn it off before damage to the battery.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

They dont always cook the battery. Just undercharge.
£30 on a second hand rectifier wont covera new battery either. A previous boss always told me either buy new or reconditioned or new. Secondhand can fail at anytime with no comeback.

Fair enough, you pays your money etc.
I think that the point was that the original one fitted to earlier ones, which had no cooling fins, failed relatively often, and later, finned ones don't fail at all.
MOSFET ones last a great deal longer without a performance drop-off, but realistically with any RR if it does fail (and they all can, even new ones) then it will either over or under volt.
Either will stop the bike, but over voltage isl also likely to destroy the battery.
On the other hand, the battery is a consumable item anyway, and these engines take a bit of turning over, especially in cold weather, and so a new battery every few years isn't a bad thing.
And a RR failure that takes the battery out will still cost you less than £80 to fix, leaving you with a new battery, so not exactly a disaster, in the great scheme of things, especially compared to a CCT failure.
Once done you can forget about it, assuming that the replacement has fins.

Sorry i asked for advice and went ahead and did my own thing. But i came to my conclusion based on this.

Seems to me that this forum is all about gathering a few ideas before you try something, or buy something. Personal choice is what it's all about, otherwise every storm would look the same.
