You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

I'm not sure why people get so annoyed with the whole sorn thing, if you don't intend to tax and have the bike on the road then just sorn it. You can do it on the internet in about a minute! and just as quick to apply for the tax.
You get sent a reminder every year to do one or the other so it's not like it comes as a surprise 8O
That said I do think its a completely pointless exercise, if you don't buy the tax surely it should be declared sorn automatically? You'll still get fined for use on the road declared Sorn or not.

If you read the small print the DVLA are not duty bound to send a reminder, as I found out when no SORN reminder was sent, but they remembered to send me a couple or three months later a letter asking me to pay the road tax for the time undeclared...

A bit late but a small victory for common sense in making it a one time notification, rather than repeating bureaucratic paperwork every year.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

why bother, I found out when i went to sorn it, that there records came back as ITS BEEN SCRAPPED. despite taxing and insuring it and using it on the roads for years ,
DVLA are like all other govermnet departments, over paid and crap :clap:
