Hi All, the rivnuts that hold the seat cowl on are spinning in the frame when I try to undo the allen bolts that hold the seat cowl on, and ideas how I get them to stop doing this?
cheers

Sub Frame Rivnuts
Re: Sub Frame Rivnuts
Not uncommon, one option is to disconnect and remove the rear light and just stretch the rear plastics up over the subframe, pivoting on the undo-able fixings.
Another possibility is use a hex drive in a drill set on reverse, just spin them until the aluminium well nut gets hot; it then expands and suddenly grips the hole, shocking the bolt undone.
Doesn't always work, though, and don't do it long enough to melt the plastic.
Last option, slide a hacksaw blade down between subframe and plastic, and cut them off.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: Sub Frame Rivnuts
I had this problem and ended up drilling them out. drilling right through the subframe and using a longer bolt and nylock nut.
Bit of a pain when removing the rear panels but it's a solution.

Re: Sub Frame Rivnuts
If it was me I'd drill out the bolt and the subframe and put a long nut and bolt thru it..... or if it's on a pristine bike then for what it would cost I'd buy a second hand subframe.

Re: Sub Frame Rivnuts
One of mine does it, I can just about squeeze some terminal pliers in to grip the spining nut enough to undo the hex bolt.

im replacing the sub frame eventualy so persevere with undoing it this way
