2 into 1
This is more the bored mind of a man "on the sick" than a plan or ambition, but I was wondering whether anyone here had tried putting a 2 into 1 exhaust on the storm, ( I know its been done on the track storm featured in a magazine last year)....
And if they had, what difference good or bad it made. I have tried a quick search of the forum but drawn a blank so far.

They reckon to blank one off....easy as that. Probably means it's not going to get rid of the gasses as easy so will problaby be slower.

It has been done a few times - mainly for cosmetic reasons rather than for performance gains

yeah seen it done, I do think the storm looks better with two tho!
friend raced one with a single a few years ago, made a bit more low down at the expense of top end power and it was loud, very loud!

Re: 2 into 1
Be aware if you're going to blank one off that the exit from the collector under the RH footrest has a restrictor as standard, this will definitely have to be cut out before you can use a single can on the RH side.
Just using the LH side one is ok, though.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

My bike must be a freak of nature, exhaust manifold cut before it splits back into 2 pipes and a link pipe made up to accept a stubby can on the right hand side. Performance figures of 104hp...go figure

What size inlet into can, is it enlarged, 60mm?Snoogle wrote:My bike must be a freak of nature, exhaust manifold cut before it splits back into 2 pipes and a link pipe made up to accept a stubby can on the right hand side. Performance figures of 104hp...go figure
Re: 2 into 1
Nope, standard aftermarket bore sizes 51mm iirc

Re: 2 into 1
Only pic I've got.
Will get some more, but, as my bike is in bits and I'm half way through modding another slip on I can't really show you anything else lol

Well, can't tell much from there, maybe if you could do one without the bellypan it would show the routing, but sounds interesting, for sure.

Re: 2 into 1
There's not much to show tbh. Where the headers go into 1 pipe and before they go into 2 again its cut and the link pipe joins there before extending to the slip on

Re: 2 into 1
Here is what my 2-1 experiment looked like (link pipe and can were from a 98 R1; only mod needed was to cut the pipe and rotate it a bit and re-fit with a sleeve to match up the two pieces). The link was fit onto the header a short just before it splits into 2 again. As for results (dyno tested): slightly stronger low-end, slightly less overall torque, practically same top-end power. Bike ran fairly well other than a decent sized dip in the torque curve between 4800-6500 rpm.
