Nahhhhh! seriously it's just a matter of getting the front end up in the air. Various ways to do this.

Abbastand if you have one.

Hang from a joist in the garage, if you have a garage that is.

Rear paddock stand & then a jack under the sump, not the most stable unless you can tie it off some how.

Some have used a step ladder as a A frame & someone even built a gallows in their garden & hung it off that.

I went for the joist route & used ratchet straps to ''winch'' it up off a front stand, stayed like that quite happily for over a week whilst I faffed around doing bits n bobs.

Once up strip off front end, wheel, m-guard & callipers.

Black plastic things at the top push up, remove old paint with wire brush on a drill, mask up fork legs, fairing & front of engine.

Plug up the bolt holes on the forks with blu-tack unless you have a way of cleaning up the threads later & get painting!

When paints dry, rebuild it & post a picture to show us your handy work.

Mac

Here's one I hung up earlier, showing the difference between a wire brushed fork & as it was before, & when I'd finished the other one I did the down pipe!

Er no it dosn't it shows an attempt to use nitromors which failed as nitromors is now shite thanks to health & safety Hitler's so I got the wire brush
& an electric drill combo out.

Thats the one.....

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

As before, you need to get everything stipped off. To protect the threads, I just took some fairly thin card ( like you'd find on a magazine cover ) and roll it into a tube, poke it through the hole, leaving 10mm proud, and let it spring open till its snug. Easier to get out when you're done spraying. When I did mine I just made sure the area was clean from oil/brakedust, debris, and washed off with clean water to remove any wd40 or whatever else used to clean. I sprayed directly onto existing with silver Hammerite Smooth. When done it just looks like they're brand new. Happy days.

He's probably got the bike hung up on a beam in the garage, but can't let go as there's no where to tie it off

I've just done mine while still on the bike, had both wheels out to have my new Conti road attacks fitted (very please by the way, £140 for the pair from a guy on fleabay !). I just wire brushed the lowers down, wiped them over with thinners, masked up with a copy of MCN, couple of coats of etch primer and 3 coats of a ford metalic silver from a rattle can, left them harden for a day, refitted wheel and jobs a good-un :D .

Look sweeeeet.

This is how I did mine on VFR and firestorm, both suffer same fork leg paint issues.

Shopping list includes:
Meths
Paraffin
Hammerite spray silver
Masking tape (about 20mm I think)
Wire brush
Sheets

Remove fairing - come on it's only 10 minutes if that.
Loosen axle, clamp & caliper bolts.
Front end up by your preffered method (mine a front stand that cost me £32 10 years ago at GMEX show).
Remove calipers and fasten up and back with bungees.
Remove mudguard.
Remove Showa stickers.
Clean forks with paraffin and washing up brush.
Clean with methylated spirits.
Wire brush forks.
Clean down with meths again.
Rob kids spare sheets from bathroom cupboard, deny everything later.
Cover bike with sheets leaving only forks exposed, I use masking tape to bring sheets together behind the forks etc
Use masking tape to cover fork dust seals and fork sliders, just keep going around and up until its all covered.
Apply many lights coats leaving 15 minutes between. Remember light coats only.
Leave for a couple of hours and remove masking tape from fork sliders before it hardens.
Leave to cure for 36 hours (if Hammerite).
Re-assemble reverse of above and don't forget your torque wrench.

Tadaaaaa
