Matt,

Glad to hear its all coming together, its also great to see the good advice and experience here in VTR1000.org.

Sound like you might be in Gloucestershire somewhere, if you need a cheap, good, replacement for the 'Storm try Bransons in Gloucester, they will have an excellent condition black one in on Saturday as p-ex and would be glad to sell it on for £2K. I know because its mine.

I've not got any spares apart from an original shock and a part worn rear tyre but you can have 'em if you need.

Can't offer any advice as I haven't had to deal with similar situation, but insurance company might want to check on all the top quality gear you damaged. Apparently most luggage lost by airlines is Louis Vuitton!

I'm a bit late on his I know but....
The police won't (or shouldn't) be interested in your cans because they haven't caused or contributed to the collision. In fact you could argue that if they are louder than standard she should have heard you coming. If neither you or the driver of the other vehicle allege that a defect in either vehicle caused or contributed to the collision then neither vehicle will get examined by the police.
Regardless of what you tell the insurance company about modifications, you should be covered in respect of third party risks. They will just refuse to pay out for like items if you haven't declared them, and may offer you a nice set of oh so heavy standard cans! That said they might not be bothered, but every company is different.
Careless Driving, or driving without due care and attention is easier to prove than dangerous driving...and you don't have to do much to be found guilty of it.
If you are trying to get CCTV, bear in mind some places only keep it for anything from 7 to 31 days so get onto it quickly if it's available.

Hope you get it all sorted quickly. At least you're still in one piece which is the main thing, the bike can be repaired or replaced.
Drink to contentment not to capacity. I just haven't figured out which comes first.

Cheers Martin

Good advice. Talking to fraisers today they said they do quite a few assessments for NU and normally they are fine if it's third party faults. He said as long as brakes and tyres aren't illegal (ie: too worn) then there shouldn't be an issue. He did say they'd only probably replace the cans with original equipment, but hey thats better than a smack in the face with a wet fish.

So to the damage:

The gearbox needs to be replaced (the selector has pushed in an knarled up the inside of the box), front upper left fairing, left clipon, clutch lever, left radiator, left exhaust, left foot peg, left mirror, screen, indicator, headlight, rear cowl, and tank all need replacing. Sounds like it's gonna be quite ££££

Update:

Well it's been seen by the insurance examiner and they are authorising the repairs today hopefully.

What have youse guys done in terms of personal injury claims.
I'm got an uninsured loss solicitor but I don't think they do personal injury.

Advice welcome.

Matt

Matt,
I had a similar ("didn't see you") experience to you. My personal injury and out of pocket expenses has been dealt with by John Measures, who runs a service called BikerResolve. Funnily enough he's just this minute phoned me with a settlement figure.

John is a biker (Blackbird and R1 I think) and his company is Harvey Ingram Owston, who are in Leicester but will deal nationwide. I've attached his business biography:

By the way, I had non-standard cans (Blue Flame Evo) and they replaced the damaged one no questions asked. :)

You say you have a UIL solicitor...Who is it? You should advise them you were injured. Assuming your using legal cover under the bike insurance, they should instruct a solicitor for your PI.

Alternativly, I could give you a list of 101 different PI solicitors.....

RE- Cans... Have a word "Out the Back" with the garage, I got knocked off 3 yrs ago, damaged my Scorpion Can on my Kwacker, manged to get them to bill for origonal, but order a replacement scorpion.. (it was cheaper than orig. too) everyone was happy...
