Filling up?!

Post by Animal »

This happened to me on Friday evening.
Pulled in to a garage to fill up and relieve myself, that latter got the better of me so went before paying for the fuel. (I have done this before without any problem).
Suitably empty and I went to the counter to pay, told them pump number 5 and they said pump 3, I said no pump no 5, they said that's £40.
I said no that's wrong its pump 5 and its about £15. Much confusion by the Asian assistant he went and got the manager.
He came out and stared out of the window at the pump, very strange I thought, what is he expecting to see?
I then thought that someone had probably paid for my fuel, and do remember someone at pump 3 when I was filling up.
I reckon he saw me go to the loo and thought he would pay for my fuel as it was cheaper than his.
It seemed to take them an age to work out what to do, and probably saw me starting to get a bit annoyed at the whole thing.
They asked me to pay cash as that was the only way to sort it out.

Next time I'll pay first.

I'd be amazed if you could get £40 worth of Fuel in the storm.

I think that's exactly what happened.

Good shout though as this is something that we need to look out for. With the increase in fuel prices, I expect there will be a lot more of this going on. So he filled up before you, moved his cage and you moved in and filled up.

So did you get it sorted and only pay your £15 or did you have to flame grill him.

I most certainly only paid for what I took.
When they were peering through the window, I said its the pump with the bike next to it!
They showed me the receipt, it showed what had been paid, he also likes doughnuts.

I also like using using pay at pumps but this garage did not have any. (Pease Pottage off the A23)

Thats exactly what I would have said to the teller. "If you can get £40 of fuel in there then I'll gladly pay for it."

I tend to use Pay at Pump these days myself too. Mostly because you can get more in the bike when you dont have to leave it and side stand it to fill up.
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes, I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.

I mostly use pay at pump, and if it doesnt dispense the receipt I go and get one from the tiller.

While stood in the queue?

I hope you had waterproofs on- gives a new meaning to the phrase "go on- fill your boots"
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
