Re: Lurch / Stall / Splutter after Long stack
get some 48s pilots (slow jets)
they fixed all my bottom end problems
they fixed all my bottom end problems
Re: Lurch / Stall / Splutter after Long stack
+1 on that....
or try half a turn out on the mixture screws to richen it a tad. The 48pilot will also richen that area and is probably the better option if you want to start getting into your carbs but you will then have to adjust the mixture screws to compensate for the change, probably turn in to lean a tad. It's a case of getting the right balance.
There's another more simple option you could try. If you have a standard air filter knocking around in the garage, it might be worth throwing that in and seeing how that effects things. You will probably find that will make it all run better until your ready to deal with the carb tuning/jet kit side of thing's or take it to a dyno.
Where do your carbs stand at the moment Seb, do you know what jet sizes are in there? Just trying to work out what the state of play is is with them.

In it at the moment is a standard air filter two long stacks and stock jets,
I also have a DJ kit and a pipercross but don't know what the wombles I'm doing at all with proper carb set up so will have to just give it a dyno man, don't have the time to keep taking tank on and off and running up and down the local B roads to test the jets by seat of pants if I'm honest or the patience for it as it needs to run as it's the work horse as well

Re: Lurch / Stall / Splutter after Long stack
Start with balancing the carbs mate. It's the cheapest and easiest, apart from reverting a step at a time and seeing if it improves at any stage.
Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero
F3, 954 USD front, K Tech springs, Braced swinger, Ohlins shock, Six spoke Mockesini wheels, Harris rearsets, QaT, Flywheel diet!, A&L stacks, stick coils, K&N, FP Ti jets, Mori pipe's [colour]

will report back

could really do with the air line control valves tho as they help to get a better reading on the dial's, as i was i just had to pinch them with a finger and thumb to reduce the flow, not ideal.

Re: Lurch / Stall / Splutter after Long stack
Well been out for a test, and its bad news
bike is a fair bit smoother throughout with the carb sync up but still plagued by that low speed random hesitation then surge it happens so fast you cant get the better of it too, if it did it mid corner on a slippy cold day i would be shot off
did it mid corner in a hairpin bend up Belmont way which wasn't good,
it seems to be doing it just after the bike has got moving say from a standstill or a slow speeds
What else could be causing this? going to put the short stack back in tomorrow see if that's the issue, wonder if these pipes don't like two long stacks? i don't know
possible the Stick coils are a bit shagged? they look a little rusty inside
Should i get the TPS upped a little would that solve it? its at 489 ohms @ the minute down from 880
Is there any switch that could be causing a problem like a sensor or side stand or neutral etc I don't know?
All i know is I've began to wombles hate this bike i loved, hate it so much i kicked the petrol tank in a rage yesterday after i found some one had broken my pillion seat cowl while i was away at the wedding
I just want it to run correctly again.
Any help and ideas would be much appreciated

Re: Lurch / Stall / Splutter after Long stack
It seems to me that all these problems started when you put the new exhaust system on. I wouldn't bother playing with the TPS or stacks as they are not going to make that much difference and will disappoint you when it don't fix thing's. Stick coils possibility if you think they look iffy. Check your connections are all good.
But TBH it sounds like a fuelling issue low down. sh1t in the carbs. The fuelling ie jets you know need sorting at some stage because of the exhaust which don't help. What are you like at carb removals? Get some carb cleaning spray, give it all a good blow through. It wouldn't surprise me after the fall in dirty flood water and all the problems you had afterwards.
Could be a jobie job for next weekend at Al's. I don't mind helping out mate. If you are doing the valves it wouldn't be much work to remove carbs and give them a clean through. Be the perfect opportunity to see what you jetting is as well, whether the pilots are 45s or 48s. I have some spare 48's if needed. You will need to sort the whole jetting out at some stage but just changing the pilots to 48's will make a difference with those cans.
I may be whipping my carbs off as I have gone too large on the mains so need to back off a size, as mine starts with no choke when cold now.

But it ran fine with the exhausts on before the Coils / TPS / Throttle mod and Long stacks ??
I changed the Plugs as well and think I may have damaged one of the end caps at the external end, could this be an issue
I can get the carbs off no issues it just the black magic inside i don't know what i'm doing with, once shown im fine just don't want to bugger it up,
in the mean time if i take the airbox off and fire some carb cleaner down the carbs and run the bike would that help clean out the jets or just go straight into the heads?
at the minute I'm back at work on Monday and i only have 6 quid to my name, that's not even enough fuel to get me to work and back for a day, pay days not till 26th

due a return of £181 on a clothing order that arrived late and i sent back so just waiting on that hopefully it wont take to long.
