caliper service
Quick question - is a caliper service something an inexperienced keeno like me could do? I've checked out the various threads on it. One thing to bear in mind is they have taken a beating over the years coz they're on a black bike

Re: caliper service
PM Jonesy the braking guru of all things Storm, he will put you right. I think the only thing that's gonna be tricky, with out the right kit is removing the pistons. Oh & if they are standard you will need an E12 socket to split the callipers (couple of £'s from halfruds, or I can lend you my one if you don't want to invest.)BigVeeGrin wrote:Quick question - is a caliper service something an inexperienced keeno like me could do? Jonesy has to have great brakes as he has a red one.

Re: caliper service
It's very easy to do .
Get all the new seals before you start and new bolts and some red rubber grease and new brake fluid .
Take your time and make a note how they come apart .
Keep the callipers separate .
Check the pistons for pit marks and replace . I have done spare piston if you need them .

Re: caliper service
It's easy to remove the pistons . Just pump them out .
And you can use a 8 or 10mm socket on the caliper bolts .

Re: caliper service
Not if they are like what mine where like. Even with jonsey's puller tool they struggled to pop out. And then to top it all off my fluid had all jellified like treacle. It's easy to remove the pistons . Just pump them out .

Re: caliper service
If you have an air compressor then it's a piece of piss getting the pistons out. Get an old brake line or a banjo and chop the end off so you just have banjo with some hose on it, then put your air gun in the end and pulse the button, the piston'll come right out. You might have to put a small g clamp over the other pistons to ease them all out at the same rate if they're a bit sticky.

I like that idea, very clever. Mine where near enough seized in place. Once the pistons where out I had to wet n dry the rust off them.Get an old brake line or a banjo and chop the end off so you just have banjo with some hose on it, then put your air gun in the end and pulse the button
