I have used Linux, but much prefer FreeBSD.

Currently using FreeBSD 9.1 and KDE 4.

*Edit.

If you really must run Windows programs check out Wine http://www.winehq.org/ or use VirtualBox https://www.virtualbox.org/

In response to the post from BigVeeGrinI I'll post this I fully realise that I may be insulting the intelligence of some members here and you probably know how to suck eggs so to speak ...but this I found is the easiest way for me to get a Linux program. and it may be usefull for some to be aware of this. ( Other than buy one  )

You can install latest Ubuntu Linux under Windows Vista / XP Msft systems without creating a new parition with a new tool called Wubi. It is a Ubuntu installer for Windows users that will bring you into the Linux world with a single click. Wubi allows you to install and uninstall Ubuntu easily.

Look at http://www.distrowatch.com Ubuntu comes well up the pecking order of the most recent 100 Linux
applications currently 3rd I believe. You can get the ISO from the site, download it by torrent or file
I use Deluge a FREE torrent but there are others... save and write it to a cd rom.. but please check
the size of the Linux application which you select to see if it is not to big, less than 700 cd-r then write
it to disk. I Use a free program... FreeISOHunt.... Google it for the free file save and use. Some like this others do not It works for me. write the disk..

Connect up, wire to system and power on and then after your password detail , time / place etc
the program will give you options to overite Msft or run along side your Msft program or use as a
trial so all your queries are answered here .......

:https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Wubi Guide

I hope this helps you.... Before you do anthing make sure the Pc or your " lappy " is in good order
and please go into the bios screen.. and ensure it can boot from a disk which will be your newly
written CD rom...Mines F10 key on my C - - - - Q Evo N6 -- , which is rather old by modern standards.

Hey if I have mentioned and commercial advertising here which has offended some I believe I do apologise but the nature of the beast dictates one has to name names.. again sorry about this stuff which is very basic to some but may be usefull for others.

I see some to forum use Latin so I'll say this wich reflects for me the use of LINUX systems.
