CCT Mod

Post by Wolves storm »

Is there anyone in the Midlands area that can carry out this mod for me (for payment of course) I can rebuild an MG Rover, but have never worked on a bike as I like to have someone who knows what their doing, rather than me having bolts falling out a speed :D

There will be a Worksop day (have a search to see what they are) at my house some time this year, I can show you what to do then.
Or if you don't think you can wait, I will be helping Callum do his this afternoon and you can come and watch. If you know how to hold a spanner and a hacksaw you can do the stopper

That's about right, between 11 and 13 is normal.

No, there's no metal caps fitted when you buy new ones, you have to swap them over from the old ones.
If you haven't got any, I should have a couple spare.

But then because they add length to the plunger length, you will need to redo the inserts.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

i dont suppose its a problem running it without the metal caps is it? there is a slight mark on the rubbers but thats it,i thought if its ok i will leave them till the the next valve clearance check?

i will be checking the valves this coming winter.

No, it foesn't affect the bike.
I often find them missing when I remove std ones to fit manuals.

As you say, the circular indentation in the rubber plunger end gives it away.

I think'll you find (well in your case hopefully not) the rubber plunger head will eventually split if you run them long enough without the metal caps,

Did mine at the weekend, 12.5mm on the rear and 9mm on the front.

set the TPS aswell, was 9 something, adjusted it to 5.3 thats close enough, couldn't be bothered with hacking it about to get the last bit.
Also took off the pair system gubbins, flipped the reed holders over and blanked off holes with bolts in hoses, still pops back a bit but nothing like the constant pop, pop, bang that went on before.
