Declaring modifications

Post by Steve6088 »

Ive been meaning to tell the insurance company about all the modifications Ive done to my bike for a while but have been put off thinking they'd want a shed load of money.

Rung them up this morning and listed everything I have done from the front fork swap to paddock bobbins and they didnt charge me a penny more to put it on my tpf&t policy :D ! Is this normal?

This Adrian Flux mob keep getting mentioned. I never heard of them up until Lloydies thread. How do their prices compare to other policies. Basically what I'm getting at is, are the added costs on there to begin with and they just say they don't charge for any mods as a marketing ploy.

It was the cheapest insurance I could find. Was £300 for tpf&f.

Was normal for me with MCE mate

i did the same year after but that time they wanted like 30 quid extra with declaring the paint job, everything else Race system, Airbox mods forks etc etc they didn't care, guess a paint job might make it more nickable?

i think its more to do with repair bills as you cant get a standard panel in after market paint .

i advised lloydie several times to try adrian flux, they are a brokers and they seem to specialise or at least be willing to insure heavily modified bikes. my policy wasn't cheap but it was fully comp with every mod declared and zero ncb. at the time most insurers wouldn't touch my bike and the ones that did were stupid money.

Back in the 90's when I used to race mini's, Adrian Flux was a specialist insurance company that dealt with modified and race vehicles.

Seems they are just a broker like every one else now, but they do deal with most of the specialist markets, including classics, modified etc etc.

They weren't cheap for me on a standard car.

Back in the 90's I was paying £130 for TPF&T on a mini that had 1.3 metro engine, lowered, minilights, bucket seats, roll cage, modified disc brake conversion, full maniflow exhaust system, tubular exhaust manifold etc.

How about what is considered to be a modification that should be mentioned to insurance. Should we only declare performance related things or do we go mentioning anything that is not standard from the factory. And do we only declare performance related stuff that can only be seen from the outside. If ones involved in an accident and making a claim are they really going to go digging around the internals of an engine to see if there is something one has not declared.

If it results in serious injury or death of someone i suspect they will do a full investigation into the bike, if cams and pistons are in and you've not declared them then you would be up sh1t creak I suspect
