Is My Side Stand Bent?

Post by Dr B1G »

Hi Fellas
Please forgive the n00bish question as this is the first time I've owned a storm, but ive noticed my bike leans too much while on the side stand and wondered if my stand is bent, or is this standard?

Oh, and please forgive the gay rug, my Grandma gave it to me to stop my knees hurting while cleaning the bike :whatever

No that is not standard when I checked against my one. Definitely has a bow in the middle.

Yep that is indeed bent. Get it changed that bend will be a weak point so don't try straightening it.

If you are tight & do straighten it then weld a bar along its length to strengthen it. :D

Actually, a good option is the get a CBR 1000RR 04-07 sidestand... It fits on there with very little mod's (5 min with a file) and is stronger, lighter, and a tad longer...

I would leave it as is, standard is way too upright, my bike nearly tipped over the other day on the tiniest of side slopes as it was almost vertical with the stand down.
Budget storm gradually on the road to spangliness.

The problem with that, is that once bent it has a tendency to break easily...

Just inspired me to take a look at mine as i think itsits pretty low. Mine has a very slight bend too. Nothing like as bad as yours though. I wonder what causes this, Banging it down on the stand?

The lean angle can vary from storm to storm depending on suspension set up. ie. shock spacer or not, forks lowered or raised, standard fork or CBR etc etc.

The standard stand is not the strongest of stands in the first place and tipping the bike onto it's stand to oil the chain or spin the bike around and things like that don't help.
