Exhaust cam change

Post by ebenviljoen »

So I got a cheap set of exahust cams to replace my inlet cams. When I do them I will do my valve clearances too. My question now is, when replacing the inlet cams for exhaust cams, which clearance settings do I use? Still between 0.13mm & 0.19mm, well aiming for 0.16mm or do I use the settings same as the exhaust? Logically I would say use normal inlet valve clearance of 0.16mm, but I am double checking

Agreed, inlets are inlets.
The smaller gap is because the valve is cooled by the incoming charge, so less expansion to deal with.

Sixteen is the midrange, but if you're using a Hotcams set, which only come at .05 increments, aim for the larger end of the range.

Gaps always close up with normal wear, so a newly set gap of 16 to 19 is good.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

thanks mate  i did think that because it is still your inlet you keep inlet gap specs, but now I understand why. lol

now I need to buy some shims. Which kits fit these bikes? I don't really fancy taking it apart, measuring the gaps, then the shims and then have it standing in bits for a week waiting for the shims to be deliverred, because I know my dealer won't have the sizes I want. well at least one because that is always my luck! lol :confused

Yeh you will have difficulty finding them in the UK. The other brand out there as an option is Pro X http://www.24mx.co.uk/motocross/p/prox- ... ent/17617/
Whatever kit you go for you need to make sure they are 9.48mm diameter shims.
