help think ive got a goosed engine

Evening guys
My storm really aint sounding right.
What can fail in the bottom end, ive got a ticking come knocking noise from behind the clutch casing more that the alternator side.
Bikes pulling ok but when its ticking over its knocking, mid range up the noise clears up, top of rev range it sounds like ticking.
When you open the throttle its sounds like theres to much chain tension get that kind of chain snappy noise.
Clutch bite has gone to end of lever travel, sounds alot worse when lumps hot?
Its got manual cam chain adjuster on it and ive checked them
And gear changes have got really clunky

Clutch, If it's happened suddenly then maybe the bearing has failed, stop riding it and investigate !, if it's happened over time then bleed the clutch and see if it's better.


Could be part 24 or 25.

Could be the clutch thrust bearing .

Tried bleeding clutch and made no difference.
One day it was fime and then it just started making this noise, no problems up until that point.

I put a couple of links on my post above, could be the problem ?, you need to remove the clutch to find out though. if you keep riding or running the bike you risk more damage.

Cheers mate, gonna order up a clutch cover gasket in morning, put some new fork seals on my gixer and use that for mo.

If any one comes up with anything else pass it on please

i think mine is doin exactly the same thing... the nock is particularly bad on backing off the throttle.

to get the clutch cover off, you need to undo the bolts, there is two small areas around the engine where it meets the clutch cover, these areas are there so you can use a big screw driver to prize off the cover, you use them to pivot the your tool of choice against it. i'm sure someone will give you a better answer. i'd also suggest cable tying your clutch lever back against the handle bar.
i'm probably talking crap, but that's my 50p worth.....

Popkat has got it. Hopefully it the thrust bearing on the clutch as that is easy to change. If it's the shaft bearing then your crewed as that means splitting the casings. Get the clutch cover off strip the clutch down to investigate. You will ore that likely need a clutch basket holding tool as well to get the basket off.

And yes the pineapple is right. You will find some bits that protrude out on the clutch cover, there for prising the cover off. IIRC one is down the left hand side as you face it near the brake lever and there is another at about 1 o clock just above the water pump and towards the rear slightly. I think they may be one at about 5 o clock as well. Use these to help pry the cover off. Don't use a screwdriver between the clutch cover and engine casing as you will more than likely damage it. The clutch cover sits on metal dowels so it will take a bit of prising going backwards and forwards from the pry bit that protrude. Once the seal is broken it will pop off reasonably easy.
