Fitting aftermaket rearsets
Hey guys just brought a pair of MFW rearsets off eBay and not sure if I have gotten the right gear linkage with them. Does anyone know if the gear linkage a direct swop or can I use the stock linkage? Again something new for me to tackle along with the rear end rebuild, loving the learning curve

What's the issue with the gear linkage. If the rod is too short or long then it has a certain amount of adjustment but you can buy various lengths.

Re: Fitting aftermaket rearsets
If they are proper rearsets then the gear linkage will be much longer than the standard one.
The whole idea of them is to move the foot peg position back from standard.
Some pics would be of help. Even if it's just an old e bay link.
Just did a search for MFW & the only thing I can find is the Vario type foot pegs.
We need pics Sir !

Re: Fitting aftermaket rearsets
Hi buddy,I got mfw rearsets on mine and linkage rod is about 40mm longer I think, its just a hollow rod with threads so easy to make up if needs be ,best bet is set gear change arm at 5oclock position then rearset lever at 9 o'clock depending on riding style measure between locknuts for rod length maybe slightly less so you can fine tune it.brake cylinder is a bitch to line up mine is on the inside near your boot to get a straighter plunger line ,hope this helps .ady
Re: Fitting aftermaket rearsets
Pictures would definitely help lol.
Hopefully this works I'm doing it on my phone so might go tits up

This is the link shaft and link ends, as you can see the one is screwed into the shaft and is slightly smaller than the on that is not connected. The unconnected one seems to be bigger and like the link shaft has a female thread which again is a different size.

Is there a chance that the unconnected piece is not the correct item?
Here are the pics off the eBay ad

You have one Male and one Female Rose joint on that rod. It looks to me that the one on the Left should be Male. What you need to determine is what size you need.

A ROSE JOINT!!! So that's what those thingy ma jingy joby's are called
Ok stupid question..... How do I determine what size I need? I'm guessing j need to figure out what size thread the one male I have is.

Re: Fitting aftermaket rearsets
I use a Thread pitch gauge and Micrometer for things like this these days. I got fed up with being in the same predicament your in now. Otherwise it can be a bit hit or miss unless someone else knows the size. I can't think off the top off my head right now.
You also need to work out if it's a left or right handed thread. IIRC one goes the opposite direction
If you have a nuts and bolts stash, you can use them to help determine what size is needed. It's more than likely an M8 or M10 but don't take my word for it.

Re: Fitting aftermaket rearsets
How about a nice new shiny Ti selector rod made to measure.

Those look great!
Re: Fitting aftermaket rearsets
Cheers for the info guys
Cybercarol that ti rod looks awesome, don't think I'd get it past the missus though. She has been brilliant letting me go to town on the bike as it is but my spending spree has come to an end
Adyf thanks for the info on the rearsets and settling them up it will help when it comes to putting it all together. You say that the smaller rose joint connects to the rearsets it's self, is the other rosé joint the same size or is it bigger? You don't happen to have any pics by any chance?
