I have noticed it is better if you short shift , still used to 4 cylinder I suppose no need to run out 1st then change when you can short shift with the torque you have on these

I always use the clutch.

Why put extra pressure on the gearbox?

When I was a younger man and raced moto cross I only ever used the clutch to get off the line.

After every season we would pull the bikes down and never ever had any problems with the gearbox.

Even after that experience I have always used the clutch on all my road bikes.

It must be pschycological as not using the clutch would make me feel like I am abusing my bike unnecessarily for little or no gain.

same hear, i find you do have to be positve with the lever. it is smother i find when riding with a pillion too.
as long as there is no tension on the chain only back off a little its quicker than with clutch.

yeah, i find it clunky to 2nd too. sometimes it changes smooth. all other vtrs ive been on are the same.i got mine to stop doing it by reducing the idle speed but of course with the idle speed being too low it cuts out so i put it back.
