...of removing the front sprocket without the wheels on the bike, hence cant use back brake. Took the wheels of to remove tyres, decided as an afterthought while my hands are dirty to put my new sprockets on.

No big deal it can wait if necessary, but one of you clever b'stards must know an easy way to do it.

Are you replacing the chain? You could use the chain and lock it off using a screwdriver or similar. Have done it myself before. someone else may have another idea.

I've used an old chain but not and bolted instead of screwdriver but same effect wouldn't do it if your reusing chain though

My clutch locking tool also can be used to lock a sprocket... But lloydie has it

Jam a suitably sized spanner or piece of metal to go between one of the sprocket teeth against the footrest bracket, on the large boss where the swingarm pivot bolt goes through.
Place a decent bit or rag, jeans material is good, against the boss to avoid marking it.

DO NOT try to lock it against the engine casing, as it will end in tears.

Having a helper is useful, as you'll need a long breaker bar and three hands otherwise.
