Parts, bearings etc.

Post by Serlant »

Parts, I was planning on new bearings all round on the old engine, some nice pistons getting the valves and seats re-cut or replaced replace all the main shells, its on 70k so can't hurt. I'm struggling to find any parts like bearings ETC. all I can see are main shells for the rods. the old engine was very rattley compared to the replacement but am unsure what caused it (clutch bearing crank bearings etc) but it just felt vibey from the day I bought it.

The measurements are key, unless you're going to use genuine Honda replacements.
All you need is width, int diameter, ext diameter, and whether it's shielded, metal or plastic, and one or both sides.
That's it, really, any bearing shop will help if you take in the old ones.

Wemoto and David Silvers have all of the mains and big end shells.
All of the o rings can be re-used unless they have cracks or splits.

It's only the crankcase bearings (main and layshafts in the gearbox, crank and big end bearings that need to be replaced, as really it's only ripping the cases apart again that you need to avoid.
The others, bearings and seals, can be replaced with the engine in situ.
It's the big bearing behind the clutch that definitely needs a genuine Honda replacement, in my opinion- I've had one collapse, and it's messy.....
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Thanks for the advice tony mon, I felt like it might be remove them and take them to a bearing factors :), where would I get replacement seals and a replacement clutch main bearing? haven't even got around to getting the old engine home after the swap :) and its been about a month and a half.

off this topic a tad, whats your thoughts on whipping the exhaust cams out of the old lump and swapping them for the current inlet cams?

Seals and bearings- i refer my learned friend to my previous answer.

Re cams swapping- you can, and it's an easy job, but you will need to check valve clearances afterwards and re-shim if necessary.
No real power advantage though, maybe one bhp or so, but nothing noticeable.

Quite possibly, otherwise order Honda ones. There won't be a lot in it for seals.

Also look on ebay. clutch pushrod seals are on there, probably others.
