Ignition or Yoke Replacement
Hi all,
Me again...the dog has three different keys for the tank/ignition/seat - which is crap. I've got hold of a lockset and the replacement ignition is still attached to the yokes/steering stem. Is it better to replace the lot along with the steering head bearings than trying to do just the ignition switch (sheer bolts and all that?)

The dog...... that's the new name for it then.
If you got the top yoke with the new barrel then swap the yoke and barrel together rather than messing around removing shear bolts. Don't swap the whole lot.

Can anyone use the rest (including the old ignition and key on my old top yoke, bottom yoke, stem etc) perhaps for a track bike (postage only)?

You will get there and it will be a super fast Black one.Actually getting somewhere with it now. Just want to be riding it really,

To replace the top yoke:
Remove fairing
Remove big centre nut on yoke (tip for you, turn the steering all the way to the left when undoing this nut and turn the steering right when tightening up)
Loosen the bolts that clamp the bars (clip ons) on, lift them off and let them hang out the way.
Loosen the bolts that clamp the yoke to the stanchions
Disconnect the wiring block connector for the ignition barrel
You should now be able to remove the top yoke complete with ignition barrel. it may need a gentle tap with a soft hammer from underneath.
Reverse to put back together

Where's the pics of this beast then.

Not sure I can post this but will have a go, this sans wheels/new tyres and prior to the calipers being sent off to Jonesy, tank is now off and gone with the rest of the bodywork for respraying:

It don't look like a dog, garage could do with a clean up though.
Mine is probably in a worse state visually. Well... you halfway there with the fairings already off. When you change the seat lock, take a careful look how the mechanism works/goes together before remove the lock.

To replace the top yoke:

Loosen the bolts that clamp the bars don't forget the circlips above clip on (clip ons) on, lift them off and let them hang out the way.
Loosen the bolts that clamp the yoke to the stanchions

Sorry to jump in on your thread Mav, but Carl, do you think the standard clip-ons would be ok if the locating pin (cast into the underside of the clip-on) was ground off? It's an option if you want to relocate the bars. It's the safety precaution in case the bolt works loose. So basically it's down to how much faith you have in the bolt. You don't want to slam on the anchors and have the bars go loose and fly forward
Saying that, there are plenty of aftermarket bars that don't have this feature and IIRC the VFR bars have to have that chopped off

Hmm, yeah not keen on the thought of the bars moving under heavy braking!

A few members and myself had the clipons raised up so that the location pin wasn't located .
Not once in the 8 months did the bars move and I did many hard stops and landings ;)

I could always pop a bit of thread lock on the pinch bolt too. Would lower clip-ons work with the tank/fairing etc?
