Battery
Re: Battery
I sent for a motobatt battery yesterday, the mbtx12u and it came today, got it on the bike now even though it was getting dark, got it on the well known auction site, it's the one with four terminals, i thought it was going to be a lot bigger, but i took the plastic base off and it wasn't much bigger, is it ok with that base removed?
Re: Battery
In fact now if put some serious thought into it if spent nearly what I brought the bike for already this year. Around 1200quidlloydie wrote:Anyone got a link to the bigger amp 4 terminal motobatt battery ?
My 2 year old standard one ain't holding charge :-(
I've spent £700 in the last 3 months on the two vtr's and that ain't the normal £500 I spend every winter !
If she found out if be out

Re: Battery
can anyone advise about the plastic base? it's two pieces clipped together, a bit like spacers, is there any need for it to be on?

Re: Battery
Are you referring to the lid and front or the rubber blocks in the bottom ?scouse645 wrote:can anyone advise about the plastic base? it's two pieces clipped together, a bit like spacers, is there any need for it to be on?
.
You can remove the lid but put some tape over the positive on the battery .
As for the blocks should be ok to remove them

I don't even want to think how much it's cost me since I've had them
Re: Battery
Thanks, it was on the bottom of the battery, it's just plastic with two sides to clip on the base, it was just that i read on here that this battery was bigger so didn't fit, with the plastic bit removed the battery is the same size, just seems odd.

Re: Battery
Its just an extra moulding for if the battery is going in the space of a bigger battery, totally not needed.
The one that is bigger is the higher ampere battery that some people fit. my exp of the motobatt is that the standard size is plenty enough and is obviously lighter.

Re: Battery
As I understand it the extra plastic base is for the earlier models the 16ltr fuel tank version, as they take a taller battery than the later model Firestorm (19ltr fuel tank version). The plastic spacer just makes the battery sit at the normal height if you get what I mean. For the later model Firestorm the spacer wouldn't be required,scouse645 wrote:can anyone advise about the plastic base? it's two pieces clipped together, a bit like spacers, is there any need for it to be on?
Chris.

It'd make a good stash, though.

Re: Battery
My storm is an early one, no idea if it's a different fitting or not, but I know the standard size one was a tight fit as it is, without the extra base under it. I think the bigger one would be a very tight fit, if it fits at all.

Re: Battery
Just to clarify, it's the height that is the issue, I had to unscrew the fuse holder to get it to slide in and it is definitely the standard size battery.

Re: Battery
Mine is a 1999 model with the small tank, the MBTX12U motobatt battery with the base removed was the same size as the old one, once i unclipped the fuse holder i slid in no probs.
