Check what serlant wrote a couple of posts above re vacuum hose - esp if you took the tank off.

If that's correctly attached go through electrics thoroughly again and change fuel again.

Thanks guys.

I will go and check the hoses tomorrow first thing as I am starting to doubt myself now.

Are there 4 or 5 hoses that go into the tank? I have the two large ones that go to the carbs and two small ones. I thought one was the vacume and one the breather, but then surely there should be another from the over flow bit at the filler cap. sh1t maybe I have put it on the wrong place.

If it is just one hose it means I have rebuilt the carbs for nothing ha ha

On an early 97-01 Should be two large fuel hoses on the petcock, two med breather/overflow hoses that run directly down from the base of the tank and the important one, a thin vacuum 5mm ID hose that attaches on the back of the petcock NOT on the bottom of it.

Put your location in your profile i.e. Poole, Dorset or Glasgow Scotland etc. so if you're near a forum member they can possibly pop over for a quick shufty.

Ouch looks like a bomb crater! http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/news/u/th ... 1383128727 are the waterboard liable for the damages?

Looking ahead from your current problem have you sorted the CCTs and if an early VTR the R/R?

What an idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had connected up the vacume hose wrong. Now it is running great. Went for my first spin today.

Thanks for all your help.

Will do another oil change tomorrow and try and dry out the clocks. Rev counter is working but the speedo isn't. Any ideas?

Thanks again guys.

Also is everyone doing the manual cct? What is the R/R mod?

Good news! and easily done

Have a read through this *** Read Me for New Members *** for Cam Chain Tensioner (CCT) and Regulator /Rectifier (R//R) solutions which are best dealt with before they go wrong.

http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 23&t=31345

Speedo not working could be the speedo sensor gone wonky which runs from the back of the crankcases (near rear CCT) and plugs into the loom nr the battery. and then goes into the back of the clocks.

And this link Bike Maintenance and Upgrades/Modifications will take you direct to the section

I didn't have BBCode anchor links so improvised by splitting posts :!:

Jteale123 don't feel stupid for it. Putting the vacuum hose on wrong has got to be one of the most common mistakes. The majority of us have done it one stage or another. Now get out, ride and have fun.

Thanks guys.

Looks like I will be doing the cct mod once I have sorted out all my other issues first.

Still can't believe a storm can be completely submerged for 7 hours and with a bit of tlc will fire up again.

Also gents my local honda dealer seems a bit of a rob job. Can anyone recommend a good mail order place for the likes of filters and things.

Cheers

Well done!

I find that remarkable too, I've dunked a motocross bike a few times, but a road bike with all the extra electrics and gubbins is astonishing!

I got a pattern air filter from ebay. Oil filter from David Silver Spares. To be honest between ebay & Dss you can't go far wrong. If you list all the bits you are thinking of replacing, we could point you in the right direction perhaps?

 the storm lives!

Must have been a Storm drain.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

We'll guys I have an update.

Bikes is going great now. Took it for a good long spin today and very happy with it.

Only thing left not working it the speedo. Odometer is working and speedo seems to have power but not working right. On the motor way today it was reading 120mph and I was only doing 60 at the most. It also seemed to be working in reverse as when I slowed down the speed went up.

Below 50 mph it did not work at all? Sensor? Any one else had this problem?

Meter out the sender- it's the one on the top of the gearbox under the battery, roughly, the earth lead goes to one of the mounting bolts.
If it's not the sender you need a new set of clocks.

I have an MPH set, if you need one, and I'll have a sender, too.
