Update. I'm very happy to say I have serviced the VTR ignition switch after taking note of your good advice, It's now working just like a new one :D
The good thing is the ignition switch can be taken apart to service without any ball bearings or springs flying out, which is what I was concerned about.

I will post up a thread in "The Workshop Knowledgebase" soon going through the whole process, but here's what the problem was, the contacts needed a good clean as we guessed:-

I'll bet you looked after that pencil. I've heard it can be difficult to get your engine running with out any lead in your pencil

Cheers Lloydie, to be honest I think the corrosion looks worse in the photo than it actually was,

Bugger. I was hoping to sell you mine, as I now need a Blade one to fit the new yokes.
Glad you're sorted!

You should be able just to swap them over

Nope, the mounting points are different, the Blade one has two mounting screws, and the diameter of the lock barrel is larger in the Blade yoke.

Ah well, best hit the Bay.

As Lloydie says, I also thought others had made the Storms ignition switch work with the set up you're using Tony, I had a feeling they had to make up a spacer so the switch sat lower in the yoke. Obviously Tony you will have thought of that if it was possible, I'm guessing it will depend on which top yoke you're using,

Have a look at Seb's thread on fitting the 929/954 front end. He used the storm switch, I think.

It fits, but the hole in the yoke is much larger than the Storm barrel, and looks daft.
There are two mounting holes either side of the switch hole, cast into the top yoke.

No idea what they are for but I might just make a little carbon plate to hide the unsightly gap round the switch body.
Got an A4 sheet of 3mm cf, that should do nicely.

Would that be where the HISS ring fits over the barrel?

Could well be, none of that nonsense on my bike, thanks very much; if it gets stolen it's an upgrade to an SP1 opportunity.
