Fitting a quick action throttle
Fitting a quick action throttle
I think I have a HRC one at home, how difficult are they to fit? My wrist is currently hurting a tad because of the 200 odd miles yesterday and constantly having to shift my wrist around on the motorway

Can be a pain but can be easy !
If your lucky witch your not remove and replace.
What will happen is you have to lift the tank remove airbox to gain access to the carbs so you can loosen off the throttle cables .
Pop over as I'm in and can help u do it and you could remove the pointless return cable too

I'm in Bristol until the 2nd but I'll think about it. If it's that simple I may try it myself

Re: Fitting a quick action throttle
Ok good luck remember you will need to adjust the cables .
Re: Fitting a quick action throttle
I'll see if it came with instructions or something when I get home then go from there maybe. I'm not sure, I can't even remember if it is actually a HRC or not
haven't much looked at it since I bought it

Re: Fitting a quick action throttle
If your wrist is hurting then remember that a quick action throttle will require more force to hold it open as that is the trade off for less movement.
Try drinking pints and fiddler more to build up your wrist

Re: Fitting a quick action throttle
It's not from holding the throttle open. It's from having to shift my wrist around to get past 6k comfortably

Re: Fitting a quick action throttle
The HRC throttle tube (1/6th turn) will take you right to the end of your cable adjustability. Been running mine for a few years now and love it.

Re: Fitting a quick action throttle
It won't have instructions Virt, if it's the HRC one off the bay it's just in a bag.
It's easy enough though.
Tank off.
Air box off.
Loosen both cables on the adjusters at the carb end.
Wind in cable adjuster at throttle end.
Remove Bar end weight.
Remove throttle grip.
Remove 2x screws on throttle housing.
Remove nipples from Throttle tube.
Slide off Throttle tube.
Clean bar of any old grease & muck & lightly re lube.
Replace throttle tube with HRC Item.
Work back through the above list replacing ''Remove'' with ''Replace''
When you get to 'wind in cable adjuster at Throttle end' Skip that & do the bulk of adjustment at the carb end. Your aim is to remove any slack in the take up. Save the throttle end for final fine adjustment.
When finished pat yourself on the back for a job well done.
Unless you have any bits left over or have forgotten to reconnect the vac pipe. In which case swear at yourself & take the tank back off.
30 to 40 mins unless you lose screws, drop bits that then roll out of sight, have chewed/mangled screws from previous cack handed fettling attempts, then it may take a little longer.
Bugger it take it round Lloydies let him do it.

You missed the ''wake us up at 5.30 half an hour before we went to bed'' bit.

True, but there has to be a build-up, else you lose all credibility.......MacV2 wrote:mik_str wrote:"Luxury! We used to drrrrrream of having just a little scratch like that.
