What is this hole?

Post by Storm Trooper »

Guys, I have been overhauling the bike and found this small hole at the front of the clutch side housing at the front of the water pump impeller. I have a spare old engine casing which seems to have a right angled nipple on it so was wandering what it is for and what should be correct. The hole, or the nipple and what should be attached?

Currently my bike?

Help?

Cheers

It's a drain for the chamber behind the water pump seal. Newer engines have the nipple, old ones just the hole.

Is it worth tapping a nipple into the hole to divert it downwards? More preventative to stop cr*p getting in directly? :confused

It's an external pathway outlet to allow coolant to run out from behind the clutch if there's a gasket failure, rather than allowing fluid busting through into the engine oil.

As mentioned before just leave be (don't shove anything up like you don;t for no good reason poke stuff up your 'jap's eye', carefully follow manual instructions as to where to apply gasket sealant if you ever take off and put back on the clutch cover / water pump to ensure nothing can block this important design feature.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
