Tank Blues

Post by Mav617 »

Came to reconnect my tank tonight - and both petrol pipes seem to have shortened themselves! Managed to just about get everything else to connect, but the fuel lines seem about 1cm too short for front'rear carbs from the tap.

WTF have I missed here?? Anyone know the diameter of the fuel lines, I'm going to have to extend them somehow.....(at least the fuel sender works, was nervous after removing the sender when it went for a respray)
I'm so unlucky that if there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'll come back as me!

Fit them on the carbs first but it's worth leaving them in a bowl of hot water first to soften them up

I take it they're 8mm OD - they're connected at the carbs, same routing as when they came off but seem just too short. Ordered some 8mm connectors off fleabay, should give me the reach and can leave them connected at the tap end in future.

Mav the fuel hose has a 10mm ID but you can fit 8mm quick connectors without any issues.

The RH side hose has to be routed over the rear cam cover but then up through the cam cover breather pipe to the tap.
The LH side runs along the side of the carb connection bracket.
Neither has much slack, though.

Cut the pipe and fit two 8mm quick connects, then you have a good reach to the tap, and can lift the tank pivoting it around the rear tank bolt and can reach underneath to disconnect the quick connects. one handed. It gets easier with practice!
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Thanks Tony, that's the idea.
