For anyone running Mori stacks with airbox

Post by mik_str »

Rather than having to mod the airbox to no end (thin it out, as Lloydie can attest), or make do with a gap between the carb throat and bottom of the stack, know that this aluminum tubing is the EXACT same inner diameter. I picked some up (on a hunch, and that is how I can make that revelation) and will be getting a 5mm piece cut to take care of said gap and will thus try running the longer Mori stack int he front position (with a longer HPower in the rear).....

Said tubing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ALUMINIUM-ROUND ... 2421wt_808

Chap is right in the UK too....

Hope this helps

P.S. As I had to buy a 150mm piece, I coudl perhaps get some additional pieces cut and send them out to whoever needs them, so long as you cover shipping, but it's likely cheaper for you guys to just buy direct.....

That's interesting info Mik. I never knew there was an issue with the Mori stacks inside the airbox. I take it this is something to do with the base of the stack where the smaller diameter bit slides inside the carb and height of the mounting plate. So is this tubing to make up the difference of the thickness of the airbox. Hope that makes sense.

Yep, as the Mori stacks are designed to mount directly onto the carb, using them with the stock airbox results in a gap (equal to the thickness of the box) betwwen the lower end of the stack and the carb throat. Cutting off a slice of said tubing remedies the problem, and makes it easy to try/use the stacks without having to perform major surgery on the box........... In my case, I want to play around with the Moris and the HPower long stacks (first attempt will be long HPower in rear and long Mori in the front; at a glance, there is @ 15-20 mm difference in length between the two).

There's just no stopping you is there  OCMD. How's this going to interact with the airbox mods. I'm just trying to work out how your going to work out what improves what and where. Have you got some kind of order of testing, or are you going to go with trial and error.

Thank mik :-) this is the route I should of gone instead of spending days grinding and heating the airbox floor !
But now it's done and works I shell be removing them after the workshop day and popping them in storage for the track bike and refitting standard airbox and stacks :-( as I no longer have dr honda stacks .

And yes it would of been far easier to make the spacer live and learn init

No no no, you've got that the wrong way around Micky :D
The only downside would be you would not have any spare time hardly to ride your bike

On a more serious note, this sounds like a very good idea, it be interesting to hear how it turns out :)

One small problem, the taper on the stacks is (from memory) 7 degrees, so it won't match exactly.
But better than running with steps

You can also chop sections from the standard plastic ones.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

It doesn't follow the taper, but it fits perfectly at both ends (is a parallel extension if you will). The main goal was to get rid of the step and whatever negative effect it would have on airflow. In that regard, it's mission accomplished. As for what effect it will ultimately have, I would imagine it's minor but hey, my OCMD mind pushed me to it.....

To be fair, mine aren't; Mori, but I got the taper info from the man that made them.

Know what you mean re OCD, though, stuff that isn't right preys on my mind....
I'm fixing mine a different way- by removing the bottom of the airbox.

Read latest airbox post, coming soon.
