CBR/VTR/VFR suspension setup help required

Post by Styler4077 »

Well I finished the CBR/VTR/VRF Hybrid and it passed it MOT with a couple of faults that we're rectified at the MOT station.

My question is what are the std setting for a VRF rear end with a Ohlins shock in the rear?
How many clicks on the top canister and how many turns on the bottom knurled knob?

What is the std setting for the FireBlade USD 954 forks in the front. Top settings and bottom of the fork settings.

I never took any notes when I stripped her all down 18 moths ago :?

MOT fail points were as follows.
I forgot to refit the reflector back on :?
Worse I forgot a split pin in the rear master cylinder (rearly stupid mistake that one)
Bald tyre but I new that one and got one fitted. Asked for one to be fitted first but NO it went down as a MOT failure.
Head bearing to loose. Again me. I was frightened of doing it up to tight.

Anyway back to the setting please.

Well standard Ohlins shock settings are 12 clicks out compression (on remote canister) and 14 clicks on the rebound (bottom of the shock)

For the forks the compression (on lower fork leg) 12 clicks out and rebound, depending on the the valving and weight of oil is usually around 1-1\2 to 2 turns out

The Pineapple will be on a plane by now.

The problem is there is no such thing as standard setting really. What's standard mean anyway, especially when you have a concoction of various bikes put together to make one. Why not just play/experiment with your settings until it feels good for you.

Manufacturers may have a baseline setting to start from, but that's not standard.

The baseline setting would be a good start.
As I said I have no starting point apart from in the middle I suppose
Wanted to see what other had started from or got too.

After the initial setting I can move forward.
Do you two have USD forking in your storm?

This guy http://briannicholson.wordpress.com/ is highly recommended by those who have used him. I keep meaning to get him to play with the storm to see what he can do, standard price is £70 takes a good couple of hours to get everything as you wish. He does group discounts i.e on Londonbikers he was charging £55.

so this MOT test, or from what ive gathered, Ministry of Transport, is a yearly check of your bike? and mods like forkswaps and swinger swaps pass?

im not sure its even legal to do any such mods here in California, but then again no one ever checks so its not a problem. im pretty sure things have to stay completley stock. which is why you see alot of exhaust setups where they say they will not ship to CA, due to our crazy emissions laws. id be pissed if every year someone had to inspect my bike. prolly does help people stay safe

MOT's are not specifically for modified bits. All vehicles have a yearly check over all the safety things to make sure a vehicle is roadworthy. Make sure brakes and lines are all good, tyres have tread within legal limits, all lights work etc etc.
