Quick Shifter

I searched the forum for this but could not find any thing so sorry if this is a repeated post im sure its been covered many a time so sorry in advance

Has any one done this to a storm?

The reason i ask is my mate used my track bike (storm) the other day his was damaged so may not have been a good idea but any how.

He said he did not use the clutch on the way up my reply was you should not do that you can wreck the gear box which then got us talking as he has a quick shifter fitted to his bike not a storm though.

Based on the way it works as when you select the next gear this will cut the engine and fire back up but in like half a second but if you fitted one to the storm would this not still wreck the gear box as i thought they did not like this sort of thing i no fitting one will shorten the life of any bikes gearbox.

If you can get one do any of you have any ideas where etc.

up shifts without the clutch are ok as long as you momentarily shut the throttle to help unload the gearbox [same as the quick shifter is doing]. shouldnt damage anything if you do that.

also running a quickshifter wont lead to any damage if fitted properly

Silly me went right off track there. There's most likely a universal kit out there that could be adapted. I'm sure I have seen something but nothing specifically made for the Storm.

Quick shifter- try HM racing- http://www.hmracing.co.uk they have several types but make a really nice strain gauge one that I quite fancy.
There's also some that have adjustable delay for each shift- so from first to second (going through neutral) takes longer than third to fourth, etc.
All programmable, and you'll shave point something of a second off your lap time.

quick shifters and slipper clutches are cool (found out recently that they make slipper clutches for the storm) but its really only track toys. more so race toys. like tony said, it will shave a few tenths off a lap time but thats all its good for. not sure about the added (or not) stress on the gearbox. im sure that info is somewhere.

ive rode a few Duc's latley cuz my mate works at the duc dealership and i really havnt gotten use to the quickshifters on the 899 and 1199. i end up using the clutch anyways. it feels very abrupt around town.

things that i fancy, and would be a cool mod for the VTR but quite pricey for not much gain. worth it if your battling for podiums but no real benefit anywhere else.

i love my slipper clutch on the gixxer hasn't half come in handy when i've knocked it down one to many

on the track on the CBR at rons it was a god send could hammer the front brakes on and bang it down the box and let the clutch out

Temped to get a quickshifter on it but hear mixed reports form the gixxer people on the wear it causes, just love that noise it makes, the BMW system sounds mega

I'll be fitting one ( quick shifter ) on the track bike and if I can find a slipper clutch cheaper it will get one too :-) .
The place that makes the slipper clutches is at Mallory park and is only up the road a ways .

I didn't think the CBR's had slippers. Where they an added /optional extra.

I bet Tony has some old slippers.

They must have put them in if they ain't standard, would have thought most 2014 spec sports bikes would have had a back tourqe limiting clutch tho by now as standard equipment

It shouldn't be difficult to retro-fit a slipper clutch to a storm- any Honda that has the same diameter and spline spacing of output shaft should fit easily enough- you might have to cut and weld a small spacer to the clutch cover, so that it clears but possibly not.
Worth looking at clutch plate manufacturers lists to see which other bikes take Storm sized plates, and see if any of those have back torque limited clutches.
Maybe Blackbird, Blade, also possibly check to see if anyone makes XL1000 Vara ones.

Storm ones by Sigma are going to be expensive as they aren't ever going to sell in the same volumes as (say) Blade ones.
