Brake pad retainer clips

Post by vtrjock »

Sorry for this being non-storm related.
I've removed the six pots and fitted refurbed Tokico fourpots on the other half's little SV, but they were not supplied with the spring clips which are located beneath the pad pins and which are secured by small capscrews.
I'm aware that some of the racing fraternity use 'em without, under the idea that less heat is retained.
The clips stop the pads from moving (noisy) and presumably wearing on the edges but do you reckon it's risky using them on the road without these fitted?
Cheers for any input

I ran my last calipers (F4i) without the clips for a few seasons... no issues.... you'll notice less brake drag too

I believe they are there as anti squeal device, and your right race bikes sometimes do have them removed. I can,t see any issues not having them on the road accept for your brakes may squeal.

Cool, these are the shiny steel plates that you can see atop the pad area in the pic below, as opposed to the anti-squeal shim types that live on the back of the non working face of the brake pad itself.

There the above parts i think you need if you want to replace them but a little copper slip they wont make any noise and wouldnt need them.
