tapping noise help

hi men i have a 10,000 miler and i know theirs a few noises you have to get used to but recently i have noticed a tapping noise from the engine ,its hard to pin down as to where it is (front or rear cylinder )i can also hear it coming from around the exhaust
i recently changed to mccts which were set to 5mm to 7mm
the tap speeds up and down with the engine speed ,on idle and under load
can you help with where to start with the hunt
