Factory Pro HDJ needle jet
Re: Factory Pro HDJ needle jet
Wow,
Would love to see some before and after dyno reports!
Then again with every thing that you have done to your bike I guess that your seat tells you like mine does.
Dyno time here in Oz is a rip off and almost the exclusive domain of the IL4 brigade.
I have a spare set of carbs in my collection so if this works I may try it.
I have fluffed around with my carbs and am happy with them so far.
I think that any atomisation improvement will be a positive for you and maybe all of us that are following this thread.
I often laugh at the guys who say fuel injection is the way to go and firmly believe that the best thing about the Storm is the fact that it is so called old spec with carbs.
I have 2 other bikes with EFI and they are nowhere as engaging as the Storm.
Where is the fun and satisfaction of a plug and play tuner when you can tinker with a set of carbs and then enjoy the fruits of your labour?
Kudos to you for trying something different that may just help us all.
I am only 2 years into this bike and loving it to bits.
I love nothing better than to smoke my mates on their EFI bikes.
The one thing that I notice about the Storm compared to the Duc and Prilla is the way that the torque is produced and how the power is put to the ground.
It has a real sweet spot that is very rewarding that I don't experience with EFI as the power delivery is so linear.
Please let us know what happens.

The better atomization can only improve things (combustion, hence response, power and fuel economy). Looking forward to trying it, though the thought of pulling my carbs apart umpteen times to get the calibration finalized is less endearing, lol Sadly, the results of the experiment will have to wait until next spring as our riding season is winding down here....

She it mate,
Was looking forward to the end result.
As you know I have other things that are occupying me at the mo, but anything that makes the bike go better is always of interest to me.
Good luck and keep us posted mate!

That's very good news on the HDJ needle jets, hopefully the next stage will go just as well,mik_str wrote:so, I finally heard back from Marc at FP and he has successfully installed the HDJ needle jets. He stated that he would need to install one of his 1.7 jet kits too, however. I must say that this one was somewhat unexpected but some Google searches indicates that his said kits have an excellent reputation, so may as well try it......

Carbs on their way.... Work done: HDJ needle jets installed, 1.7 jetting kit installed (which includes drilling out and replacing the stock main air jets....); comments on the Net are all extremely positive for these set-ups, hope it holds true for the VTR).......
$480 USD plus shipping (ie. one-third of the way to a set of FCRs)....... I sure hope it works......

Good luck and well done for taking the next step
Re: Factory Pro HDJ needle jet
that likely won't be until next spring, but in the meantime I will strip the carbs of all unnecessary fittings (coolant, PAIR vacuum feed), replace all fasteners with Al or Ti, and replace the steel side plates with carbon...... foresee one lb of weight disappearing...... it all adds up..... I may try to streamline the butterflies too, though not sure about that one.......

Good news Micky
I'll be interested to hear how it all goes, even if it is next year
