I love this site :)

well I've ordered a connector kit for the yamaha r1 mosfet recty. I do think in order to prevent any damage to that I'll get a new battery. Prevention is better than the cure :0

The mosfet rr's don't kill batteries if they do go wrong (which they dont) they go into safety cut off and just switch off meaning you don't kill stator or battery.

Well one of the units was brand new but unused. Plugged it in and the initial reading was lower then that crept up.

With regards to batteries, I would like to put a yuasa on there as I rarely run any accessories. Only a sat nav rarely and the alarm which gets armed sometimes. I have seem motobatt batteries but the terminals don't look like they fit and I really can't be arsed to be outside changing connections. Do motobatt's come with fittings fort he vtr? It's a toss up between yuasa and motobatt providing the termianls fit the storm and it's not bigger than the original. The lucas one I had didn't fit in the battery box so I couldn't close the lid bit -_-

This is a good read.
Ignore the Triumph bit, the info is relevant to all modern bikes.

The motobatt fits my bike ok. It's a 98.

Did yours come with any extra connectors in the box? all the pictures I've seen of these batteries haven't got that 'cube with holes' type of terminal that my old dynavolt and Lucas had. They have L shaped terminals.

Motoblatt fits fine you can get a slightly bigger version 14 amp IIRC that means the lid wont fit other than that the terminals are fine as well. They have two holes per post so you can fit accessories...The VTR leads fit fine with no alterations.

I don't seem to be able to find a motobatt with a height of 110mm.
also do you have a pic of your motobatt fitted? I'd really like to see these terminals.

BTW when you get a new Motoblat battery it comes with a plastic ''foot'' on it, you rip this off & send it to the bin...It may be included in the height spec's.

If you buy one for a Storm it will fit...if it doesnt its the wrong battery...As said the higher amp hr batt is slightly taller so the lid will not close.

That's brilliant. Thank you. Will get one of those on order. Won an R1 Rectifier earlier so that will be on it's way.
I was worried about the motobatt as all the pictures show a plate at right angles to the battery itself. But seeing yours (assuming you didn't have to buy any other bits to make it fit) looks perfect.

Well I'm one third of the way there. Got my battery to pick up on bank holiday. Most places charge more to deliver to the Isle of Wight so thats at my dads house. Ordered the connector kit and the rectifier came today. And my GOD!! That thing is HUGE!I wasn't expecting it to be that big. I can see why people go for these!!

Is it ok to use the original top bolt location and put the recti there? Do these get hot enough to damage the fairing plastics? I did think about making an aluminium plate so shift it further up to the wider part of the fairing. Obviously I'll rehouse the indicator relay somewhere else but that's another story.
Also thanks again for all the help. It's really appreciated. If I do make a plate up I'll put up a pic. I may also put the earth wire that sits on the recti bolt straight to the battery. :Mexican Wave:
