Any suggestions welcome at this point!!

Post by jezman »

Hi guys back on the storm project after a long break thanks to some div reversing in to my vfr and trashing it!! :? just to refresh i have put another engine in to my storm after the original lost a cam chain tensioner and destroying its self. the engine i got was from a 1999 model mines a 98 so should be no difference i would think. put new mcct's on engine before fitting it put it all back together new oil coolant the full monty. fired straight up!!! :D ticking over like a beauty was a happy bunny. soon as i go to throttle it up its coughing and spluttering like a cow ... if blipping the throttle seems fine with odd pop but wind it up to about 3/4000rpm it coughs splutters and backfires and if you grab a hand full it seems to bog down and cough and fart.... done it with airbox off so can see in to carbs and it seems to be spitting fuel back out and backfiring in carb???? had carbs off 3 times stripped cleaned and checked them .... yesterday had heads off to check timing after fitting mcct,s everything looks spot on as it should.... so here for any suggestions to try or test next carbs are off my original as are all electrics only the the lump got swapped. all suggestions welcome as daft as they are cos there is every chance i have missed something simple and looking too hard in to it!!!
Thanks All

Check the vacuum pipe for splits and have you fitted the vac pipe to the horizontal fixing on the BACK of the fuel tap ..
Mid there ok check the diaphragm in the fuel tap ,and if that's good check the carb to engine rubbers for splits .

Hi Lloydie yep went down the fuel line root got it in my head its got to be fuel or spark problem she has been stood a few years. new fuel checked filter and tap sucked on tap flowing freely on throttle slides are lifting fitted new plugs. not touched anything in carbs just stripped and cleaned them out. looked at plugs last night one in rear cylinder looked fair black and front one did look lighter colour.

Did you check the vac pipe to see if it holds pressure ?

They will and it's good practice to do them twice a year
