Things not to do to carb slides.

Post by Varastorm »

I experimented the other day with a pair of spare throttle slides

I wanted to learn where in the rev range the slides controlled the mixture & to what extent the modifications had to the running

Some might of read about the 3000rpm fuelling issue I have  , so whilst stripping the carbs down for the eleventy first time, I decided to modify the slides for the hell of it.

Here are the pictures 8O

This picture below, highlights the angle I used. It increased the leanness from 3500rpm, & cleared its self at 5200rpm.

This is of one fitted.

This is the pair lightly sanded.

After learning what the above modification did, I decided to flat the slides down so there was no radius left & see what happened then.

The bike ran horrifically lean now, not even choke would help the issue at 4000rpm.

Here are the pictures.

Please remember, I knew the slides were on a one way journey to the bin as soon as I touched them with a file.

The lesson to be learnt is if you have a rich issue at 3200rpm to 5200rpm, cutting the slides might help you lean the issue.

But if you already have a lean issue, you'll turn your bike in to one of those mechanical bull fair ground rides :D
