Red 16L Tank For Sale - small dent. SOLD to BrianC

Post by TheGingerBeardMan »

My 16ltr petrol tank is up for grabs (to UK forum members only....)

(Photos will follow below this ad, courtesy of Mac)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*It comes with the fuel tap, the sender, the rubber flap that wraps over the petcock (not pictured), the front tank mount rubbers with metal top hats.

* It doesn't come with the frame rubber cushions, and it doesn't come with the fuel filler cap. (those were put onto me new tank)

* It is 100% leak free. No rust. Inside tank is spotless.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The tank was damaged when my bike was kicked over in Nov 2014, and I've only just got round to fitting the new tank.

You can see the small dent between the filler cap and the rear of the tank on the right side. The dent is approx. 50mm wide x 60mm long.

It WILL pop out if you have that fancy tool with the ball on the end, but it will leave the 11mm x 5mm paint chip.

It would be ideal for someone who is racing (and therefore doesn't mind the dent)

Or, if you have a large Fireblade or Blackbird type tank protector it should cover it.

Maybe it will make a stand-by tank for you, if yours is away getting fixed / painted / repaired?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK - so how much am I wanting for this tankl

Well, lets call it a quid.....and you pay the postage.

A QUID MAN?....yer having a larf?

HAHAHA - yes, I am. It'll actually cost you a quid AND ONE packet of sugar free (diabetic friendly) boiled sweets, if you can find them! (no sugar, no glucose, no sucrose. But ONLY containing "Isomalt") - No point buying more as I may not like them.

So. That's ONE POUND for the tank, a packet of diabetic suitable sweets, and postage to the UK. Which should be around the 20 quid mark (who the hell is mark?)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There only a few red fuel tanks for sale in the UK (on ebay). And they are in a hell-of a worse state than mine. For example.

This example is battered and has no fuel tap: £45 plus £6 delivery
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-VTR1000 ... 51d20534f3

This one has a much larger dent than mine, and has no fuel tap or sender! - And he's wanting 40 quid plus £15 delivery
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-VTR-100 ... 4197ba6d70

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If no-one wants it, I'll keep the fuel tap and sender for spares, and the tank will be battered to death with my trusty hammer, and skipped.

Now cue El Presidente with the photos.....

That's a shame yer in Cork, cos Mr Royal mail / "Parcelfarce" class you as foreign overseas! :(

The size of the box the tank's in is: 58cm wide, by 58cm long, by 39cm high. But even tho the tank and box weighs under 10kg, the Parcelforce thieves only calculate and charge by "volumetric weight" for overseas shipping. Despite the contents weighing much less than their calculations, they want to charge about 50 quid to send it, which is just over €70.

:Shock1: Bejesus!....how fechin much!? - Again, a damn shame, and you were only me 2nd person raising interest!

But, posting in the UK, (to another address in the UK - using MacV2s postcode as a guide, which is down in Rochester, Kent), they don't require the measurements. They just want the weight. So, I entered 10kg (over weight to make sure), and I can post if for approx £20 from the North East of Scottyland to nearly Dover!

So that means, anyone in the UK wanting it will only have to pay the postage of approx £20. And here's another deal: if it came to more than £20, I'd pay the rest. I fink dats a bargain meself. *sniffs and wipes nose.

As said to MacV2, if it doesn't sell, then I'm taking my trusty hammer to it. I'll keep the petrol tap n' filter, and also the fuel/reserve sender. Why, I have no clue, cos I can't see me ever needing them.

Hiya Duffy. Well, I did read that Flatline had his "unwanted upgrade opportunity", and he said that the tank was one of the things that was feched.

But, I'll wait and see what he's gonna do with his bike before I start PM'ing him. Whether or not he buys his bike back from the insurers, or, if he decides to take the offer and give it up.

If he does want the tank as a "get you by", then I'll happily donate it!

I did think about keeping it, but then thought...why? If I damaged the new tank, then I'd have 2 dented tanks. But then, the new one might get totalled, and the old tank will be in better nick. And THEN, I thought, if the NEW tanks gets totalled, then the rest of the bike will be stuffed, so there's no point keeping a "better looking tank" as a stand by!

I've tossed and turned, wondering what to do. (well, more tossed than turned *coughs :Eyebrows: ). I don't really want to keep adding to the bike stuff I have in the house already. I'm a proper bike pack rat. Throw nothing out. It's like a workshop, clothing dept and spares all in a 2 bedroom house. The best option is pass it on to you chaps (and chappesses). It WOULD make a bloody good race spare, as the only thing it has it that dent in the top. I'm a fussy bugger, and yes, it could have been hidden by a large tank pad, but to me, it had to be replaced. It's perfectly rideable.

I don't do (and never will do) ebay. I don't agree with their policies, and the way they rip you off. They charge you for selling, then paypal charges you a fee, and paypal is owned by ebay - so, yer paying twice. Thieving bar stewards.

I'll hold off on the hammer time for now"

I'll "book it back into stock" and clear a space upstairs in the bike room and stack it up with the rest of the crap. (a whole bedroom stuffed with so much bike crap, you only have a 2ft channel to get to the window! - 13 helmets, 6 pairs of boots, 8 leather jackets, 9 pairs of gloves, 1 race suit, paddock jackets, rally kit, tents, tool boxes, spare panniers, boxes of accessories, bags of bits, and a unit full of spray cans and cleaning/maintenance stuff - it's bedlam in de bedroom) Oh, and there's a spare bed and 2 chests of drawers (albeit they're now filled with wiring and screws n stuff).

Gawd help it when I die? Someone is going to have a heart attack when they see what they have to clear out! But, it'll not be my problem anymore!

I know the feeling as I'm a hoarder of bike parts

Good idea onFlatters donation if he needs it

I would have only kept it as a good spare for the fighter so it would have been filled and sprayed anyway, that's if I ever finish the fighter

I and sure someone will find a good home for it soon

Thanks gawd it's not just me. I did manage to get me a huge garage to keep me bike in, but I'll be darned if I'm gonna shift all me stuff into that. It's a bit of a walk away, and well out reach of a stones throw, so if it ever got broken into, I'd lose the lot in one go. For now (or until I pop me clogs) it can all stay jam packed upstairs.

If you change yer mind, you know where it is! Meanwhile, I'll keep up with Flatlines posts seeing what he's gonna decide to do with his machine. I'm not going to bother him with it for now, as I feel that may be seen as me being an opportunist, or trying to offload my sh1te onto someone else.

As said, it's been booked back into the shite store, and filed under "if no-one wants it, keep it for seven years and may find a use for it." Heck I may buy me a Honda C90 again, and transplant the VTR tank onto it. I could then get 4 million miles to the tankful! Fill it up once, and run the bike on one tank for the next 20 years.

I could even use it as a chamber-pot (or a Gizunda as we Scots call it...cos it "goes unda" the bed). It might take me a month to fill it, but think it would be too heavy after a while to remove from under the bed in order to empty it. And then there's the problem of a lot of violent shaking to get the contents out from the tiny filler hole....
