Seen quite a few rear shockers with purple springs

What are these?

Shocks with a purple spring.

Hope that helps...

Nah they are the colour of choice for both Maxton & Hyperpro.

Maxton do full shocks...http://www.maxtonsuspension.co.uk/

Hyperpro do springs...http://hyperpro.com/en/springs/

I'd assume that most Storms you see with purple springs are just the Hyperpro spring on a Storm shock...

I have one from The Wonkey Donkey & the spring is SHOCKingly rusty...

on the subject.. my shocks way to hard. kicks me outa the seat type hard and its on the softest setting. would a spring change on the stardard shock be worth it? rather than splashing out on a whole shock? im only 11st dripping wet.

Funnily enough I was talking to my local suspension expert about this yesterday. He commented that a key issue with the stock VTR is that while the spring rate is about right for most, there is too much preload on the spring. I checked mine and he was correct, there is 0 unladen sag.

That means that the shock is nearly fully extended all the time, leaving little or no extension ability to cope with dips and holes. He said that an option would be to remove the stock spring and replace it with a similar rate but shorter item, plus a spacer if needed to get the length/preload into the correct range.

For reference, Ohlins recommends 13mm of preload on their 16.3kg/mm spring for the VTR (the stock spring is 16.4kg/mm). Based on that data and the length of of the OEM shock spring when compressed to it''s lowest preload setting, you should be able to work out an alternate spring length and rate.

Im on a 1000kg spring which gives me pretty much zero static sag with 18mm preload. Problem would be the tapered spring on the stock shock. You would have to turn up an adapter.

We'll have a look at that in Bonnie Scotland  I used to be about 12 stone when I had mt Storm and it had enough adjustment to keep me in the seat. It could be over sprung or possibly the Oil is shot and the rebound isn't working right.
I'm sure a few smokes, some beers and putting our heads together, we can come up with all sorts of trouble
