squeeking suspension
On the way back from Op Devon I developed a squeek at the rear when bouncing up and down, thought I had sorted this with it being the exhaust gasket being loose. Stuck it back, tightened it up and all good. At op sw it reapeared, as the general consensus went "there's the sound of bearings turning to dust, I've stripped the rear to bits. (Bloody sun's shining too).
All the bearings are super slick, no free play or signs or feel of wear. Everything seams smooth.
So before I go and put it back together, any words of wisdom?
Do I put the original shock back in to eliminate the Proflex?
It's starting to piss me off somewhat.

Alright big chap, how the heck do I do that?
I'm alright at taking solid things apart and back, things that may or may not be squidgy

Re: squeeking suspension
Put some lube on it :-)
I had the squeak once and adding some lube stopped it .

Re: squeeking suspension
Goon news that it's not the suspension linkage, but as it sounds pretty bad, I would take the shock out and feel to see if the top and bottom shock bearings are ok.
Just take it out and remove any dust seals to see if there is any dry powder / rust. Pop some grease in when you reassemble

Re: squeeking suspension
Nothing.
Everything is slick and lubricated.
Gasket on RHS link pipe is goosed, wondering if it was that squeeking between the pipes. Will need to order up new ones as the rear header connection is also shot. Now I know where the "blowing " was coming from.
All the adjustment on the shock is solid so might have to stick the OE back on for now.
Forgotten how much crud can be found under it.
Will get it back together ASAP but the winter to do list is getting longer.

I thought it was Scottish men that suffered from squeaking rear end, normally when it comes to paying for a round of drinks....

Re: squeeking suspension
Stuart, my bet will be the exhaust.
I had a squeak from my fireblade at one point, assumed same as you it was the linkage so stripped it but the squeak was still there.
In the end, I resorted to getting it all hot by running the engine then bouncing on it to make it squeak and spraying parts one by one with WD until the squeak stopped.
In the end it turned out to be the link where the 2 exhaust pipes joined, I sprayed WD 40 around the opening and it went away.
To cure it permanently, I took it apart and put some gasket paste in there. Job done.

Well I'm glad it's not the linkages
I would have put money on it being that.
On the bright side, there can't be much more to grease to up, lets hope its the exhaust gasket and jobs a good un

I reckon there's bugger all wrong with the bike.
I bet it's Stus "stuffed to the gunnels" wallet in his back pocket that doing the squeaking and groaning.
Either that, does Stu wear earrings under his helmet....If so, THIS may be the solution.....
Anyone remember this? : Volkswagon Mystery Squeak...
