Bearing instillation and removal tools.

Post by StormingHonda »

Can anyone recommend a good bearing install and removal kit, I know I have an X11 but there should be a set that covers most sizes?.

You'll need to be a lot more specific about which bearings....

Headstock?
Wheel bearings?
Shock linkage?
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Thanks Kev for the offer much appreciated, I wanted to buy my own set up just for future use, my bearings are all good ATM, I like my collection of tools and expanding them.

halfords do an internal bearing removal kit for bearings pressed into casings thats great. you basically drill into the roller case and insert some pins that are flat on 2 sides you then turn them 90 degrees and use the puller to get them out. £32 and i wouldn't not have them on my garage.

Most people use a socket to drift in and a punch working both side to get out. a bit at a time etc. The main thing is to remove any crap and some "Lube " careful Lloydie when putting them in. On wheels iam amazed how some people assume a small bit of paint wont hinder installation. make sure everything is clean first. put bearings in the freezer overnight if going inside a housing. you will be amazed at the difference it makes.
missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!

And heating the casting also helps.
I use a paint stripper hot air gun, but kept a fair distance from the casting to avoid the gun doing what it's designed to do.
But you have to work quite quickly to get the bearing seated before the heat or cold soaks from one part to another.

I have bought a bearing driver set for £13 was reduced down from £40 bargin, looking at either a bearing pullet or bearing removal driver, drivers more expensive but looks a lot easier to use.
