I don't post very often but have been a member for a couple of years.
I would just like to say thanks. I've had a horrendous brake squeal, started towards the end of last year. Generally only under light braking and slower speeds.
I changed brake pads, chamfered the edges of the pads, copper greased everything and silicone greased the sliders. Pistons removed and cleaned. Still squealing.
Well I got fed up and rode it like that for ages until last night I decided to have a browse on here. 2 posts in a couple of different topics suggested putting a bolt and nut through the bobbins on the discs and turning them.
Well I did that on one bobbin and it was stiff as a stiff thing. So... I got a 3/8ths impact gun and drove the bolt with that. A couple of impacts and the bobbin was spinning freely. I repeated this on both discs and found them all to be stuck. Took the old girl out for a spin and presto, silent brakes again.
It doesn't get around the fact that I still need new brake discs but that can wait until next year.
I also ordered some injection molded fairings from China last week. I ordered a complete kit so all the panels match. The tank may be a different shade but I guess I'll just have to live with that.
I'll keep you all posted on how they fit and the colour match etc if anyone's interested.
Thank you forum
