Over here inBelgium, we've got no MOT's on bikes. When you consider the country is full off fair weather Sunday riders who buy a new bike every year, no big deal. however there are a good few rats about though, all well and good until a wheel falls out I suppose. :/

Hey, where are you in Belgium? I'm here too...living in well-known place called Hoegaarden...

We should meet for ride...or drink one day, eh? ;) Since you speak English and my Dutch is well...basic at best I am still struggling a bit here...

BTW - do you know that max. couple of years from now Belgium will have MOT on bikes too, thou only "before sale" MOT just like for cars! That's guaranteed - had a few chats about it over cofee with my Honda dealer who are always "up to speed"....

Well....here comes bad news. Hoegaarden not made in Hoegaarden anymore.
Hated by all Belgians owners of Interbrew corporation decided to move Hoegaarden beer factory to Jupiler, where they already making this piss called Jupiler.

I so hate those managers I can't express it. Hoegaarden was based on local water. It will never ever ever taste same again. And it was world-famous, sub-zero cool white beer - and I tasted a loads of white beers all over Europe, this one was best.
Good news for me is that in local small brewery in beer museum they still going to brew some. And there is pub next to it.

I marched in protest demonstration with all village and visitors of it against moving brewery, but - it's corporate business...they don't give a s..t...
I am going to cry now - and I am not even Belgian! I am going to get myself few of bottles of original now and get stoned.

I'd be devastated if they messed with Guinness, Stella,Pedigree,Fullers ,Heinekin,Burton bridge,Bateman's Kronenburg, Wadworth's6x Spitfire,Ruddel's county,Bombardier,Old peculier,Newcastle brown, Director's,Hobgoblin,Adnam's,Stongbow,Scrumpy,Owd rodger,

Everyone seems to be moaning ( from magazines to web forums) about the new MOT system, well don't 'cos it really makes no difference to the test.

Firstly the computerised bit is just a way of entering the information as opposed to witing it out by hand, what the bike fails or passes on is still up to the guy doing the test.

As for DVLA monitoring it all, the outcome for this is pretty good, as they have found that people are on average taking less than the recommended time to complete the test and therefor they are suggesting that the test fee may have to be reduced.

Garages that have more than one tester can still overlap MOTs as each tester can log on the the system at the same time, so on a busy day they can still test more than 1 vehicle every 45 mins.

Because it is all on computer you can get a copy of your MOT from any garage in the UK quickly and easily if you need to.

If you buy a bike or car you can log on to the MOT web site to see what the vehicle failed its test on and whether the tester advised on anything. Always good when you buy a bike from someone who says they will get a new ticket put in it before you buy it.

So don't worry about it all, most of the complaints are from people who just don't like change. Before you all shoot me down I don't work for the DVLA but I am an MOT tester.

Another good thing from a legal bike owners point of view . . . . . . .
I didnt realise until after the M.O.T, but the tester was making conversation and asked me how long i'd owned the bike and my address.
Both these points of information are on the V5, was he checking ? If so, then are testers asked to do this ?

He did mention that quite a few coppers use his garage, and that some of their bikes ar not quite legal !!!!!

Hi Bruce,
It's nice too hear it from the testers point of view

As far as "Everyone seems to be moaning ( from magazines to web forums)" IMO anything (cost wise) that can increase it's purchase price by more than 50% over night deserves a MOAN

Obviously someone has to pay for all the new equipment, but that is a steep increase

You try getting a 50% pay rise

I like the monitoring bit by the DVLA " suggesting that the test fee may have to be reduced" I won't hold my breath

I will say a lot of what you said does make perfect sense and realise in this day and age it did need bringing up to date

I wish you well in your life as a MOT tester as you are at the sharp end of the stick, (dealing with joe public) and I know what that can be like sometimes as my brother use to run his own m/cycle business where he was also the MOT tester

Yellafella, No your tester should not need to know your name and address, and such information is not shown on the system. All we can see is colour, engine size, engine and vin numbers and how many seats.
