So I went to court on Thursday after my speeding offence on the Wales trip last year.
110 in a 60 limit, camera van; i never even spotted it.
I got banned and fined.
So why would that cheer me up?

The standard tariff for the offence was six months' disqualification and a thousand pounds fine.
I already had six points, so was expecting six more which would have resulted in a totting-up ban.
Looking for a silver lining, at least this would have wiped the existing points from my license.

However it didn't go like that at all.

I ended up with a £540 fine, and a 56 day ban. I get my license back on 1st February.
I still end up with the six points I already had, but no new ones were put on for this offence.

I think I may have got off very lightly indeed....

I'll still have to pay extra for insurance, and probably have to renew both bike insurances and my car ones. We'll see.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I'm pleased for you Tony it wasn't quite as bad as you expected, it certainly could have been a lot worse.

Ooooh I missed this.
At this time of year with the overwhelming feelings of goodwill to all men (even multi digited individuals, no names no packdrill!) can I just say what a pleasure it is to know that you are all out there, scattered around this fine nation, nay all over the globe, just waiting to respond and offer comfort and support to members of this fine forum, not just members but friends, forged through years of discussing the fine velocipede we share an interest in. It gives me a warm fuzzy feeling in various parts of my ageing anatomy and leads me to respond in the only manner which seems appropriate given the circumstances.....................GO FECK YOURSELVES YA BUNCH OF DO NOTHING, KNOW NOTHING MUTHERFECKERS. Merry Christmas.

I'm gutted for you, and relieved at the same time. Would have liked if they offered a speed awarerness course, and a lesser fine, and 3 or 4 point on the licence, but as you say, it could have been a hell of a lot worse. Could have been a 12 month ban and a test re-sit order. I dunno - the Judge could also have used you as an example and thrown the book at you.

'Tis a bugger getting banned, as yer stuffed for the cars as well, but, it's a bit of a saving grace for 3 months this time o' year, as that's winter. Licence back just in time for Spring is a silver lining, but no consolation having a bike sat there and not being able to ride it.

It will hammer yer Premiums though, but you already know that. :( With my Circumstances taken into consideration (if it were me getting done) I'd have offered to pay a quid a week, and if they didn't accept that, then I'd seriously have asked for a 3 month Custodial instead of the ban, and that they promise to drop the fine. That way, I get free bed and board courtesy of Her Madge, and it costs thousands to keep me there for the 3 months.

But, all you rich buggers down South, with loads of bikes and toys in the garage, that 500 quid is just loose change in yer back pocket!

All waffle aside, yes, it could have been worse. But, in my opinion, it could have been a bit better.

Yer just gonna have to sell the bike and get something a bit more ''sedate'' when you get yer ticket back. A nice C90 or CB125 should tame yer right hand a bit!

Oh, and erm, no, I haven't sent the money for the Gen Cap, as I said I'd post an English note - and I'll be buggered if I can get one. Asked in the shops whenh I was getting change etc, and asked in the RBS when I paid money in, and she looked, and said ''y'know, we don't have a single one''. SHEESH. It WILL get to you - promise. Just set it to one side. And if you get bored now you can't ride, you can always pass the time by taking some Autosol to the cap.
